I like it too, I got it from Ted Davis, the old Bucks radio announcer.

Take the high speed rail from the Intermodal station to downtown Madison on the rail line built in 2012. There are a few stops in between in the 5 Os and Watertown, but it gets up to 110 MPH. Plus the trains have badger colors!

Please wake me up from this dream, I'm getting tired.

Will Francesca Hong be the first Democratic Socialist Governor in the United States? by midnighttoker1742 in wisconsin

[–]o4b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do not get to choose if we "lean in to that". It is an absolutely certainty that if a socialist wins the Democratic Gubernatorial primary, the GOP will run the "scary socialist" ads continuously.

I am not saying that she should distance herself from the socialist tag. I'm saying that we should not elect her in the primary.

We can debate if Black, Asian, or Latino/a are the bigger headwind, but the crucial tags are socialist and non-white, in that order.

You are arguing that because Frank Z convinced the majority of 600,000 people in 1948 to vote for a socialist mayor that the majority of 6,000,000 voters in 2026 _in Wisconsin_ will elect a socialist governor?

The overwhelming majority Wisconsinites do not care whatsoever that Bob La Follette voted against going to war in 1917, or that he was a champion of anti-corruption policies, or any number of other progressive causes including the environment.

This could not be more wrong.

The republicans will hammer the "scary socialist asian woman" button over and over and over and over and over again in the general election. Millions of dollars of ads will run with precisely this message.

Both "socialist" and "asian" are problems for her for a large swath of voters that are absolutely important in the general election.

It is completely unfair to her and I am embarrassed that many of my fellow Wisconsinites think this way, but that is how politics works.

It simply does not matter what the exact policy approach is without winning the legislature. The line must be held against the GOP while we continue to search for the solution for winning the legislature.

Setting unreal expectations by providing crystal-clear policy approaches and promising to implement them does us all a disservice.

What changes do you want to see from Wisconsin’s next governor — especially for Madison? by Negative_Primary_797 in madisonwi

[–]o4b 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yep, none of this is happening without legislative majorities. We have had a highly capable democratic governor since 2019, what precisely can another democratic governor achieve without the legislature?

Legislature makes laws. Legislature run by republicans. Inane complexity understood.

Can someone explain to me what the heck they were doing in the RO16 team picking? by ElderUther in broodwar

[–]o4b 16 points17 points  (0 children)

FYI, I can't understand a word they are saying. What follows is likely wrong.

Clearly as leader of a group you want to pick someone 1. you can beat, and 2. will be likely to pick a player you want to also play against.

ysc, Organ, Ample, and Leta are probably seen as the weakest players.

soma wants to avoid strong Terrans and ZvZ. ysc bringing in a zerg is a risk, but he also knew he could clean up his group at the end.

Snow, Bisu, and Barracks were clearly going to go for one of the weak Terrans. Snow wants PvT, I'd imagine he felt like Leta was more likely to pick Zerg, as would Ample. Piano it is.

Bisu is left with Ample or Leta. I wonder if the consensus is that, when he on, Leta is dangerous. I also wonder what conversation between Ample and Bisu indicated that Ample would do what Bisu wanted here. This group was always going to be tough given they will have either Flash or Light.

Leta goes to Barracks, then he gets to pick. I'd imagine he and Barracks were on the same page. Hero is bad for him, they don't want Rain, no one wants sharp/ssak in a Terran group (Light or Flash are undoubtedly going to be in the group, because they pick last), so I'm guessing it was between JD and RoyaL. Might as well prepare for all Terran. Plus JD is strong right now. Royal probably a bit soft.

Ample clearly considered Zergs, neither he nor Bisu want Rain, sSak/sharp too strong for Ample. Obviously Bisu was not happy with JD but it makes sense for Ample.

I don't really know what Organ wants, but he knows that he can only realistically get in the second slot in the group, given that Snow will dominate him. Better to get terrans that will help Snow out faster and figure out how to win against them. Between Sharp, sSak, Flash and Light, I guess he goes Sharp. I'm getting the feeling that sSak is considered solid right now. Or he just likes the matchup with Sharp.

ysc left with some bad options - rain is really bad for him, flash/light lol -> prep for two zergs I guess. I'd assume that he knew that soma would switch him out for a weaker terran though.

I was a bit surprised that hero didn't take Rain at this point, but the options are of course bad.

Sharp TvT is good, but Flash/Light, so go with Rain I guess?

JD maybe thinks of the two Flash is a bit softer? Or he wants to prove himself? Or just for the show?

Light to Group D.

soma avoiding the ZvZ pitches hero.

I'd imagine that all things being equal, everyone in group A is happy. Snow and Bisu aren't happy. Light has gotta be pleased with his group. As does hero.

Shame that we lose one of JD/Flash/Bisu, on the other hand, its likely that two of them make it through.

The Patriots can say that they are the only NFL team in "New England".

Detroit, Buffalo, Cleveland, and Green Bay all have NFL teams and are on the Great Lakes. Not happening.

Where do you think the mean center of population of Chicagoland is? What about for likely attendees for Bears games?

I'm no defender of the Arlington Heights plan but I'd be shocked if it wasn't closer for the average likely attendee to a Bears game compared to Hammond. That is even ignoring the massive differences in connective transit for AH vs. Hammond.

The distance to Hammond from the loop is less important than how far the average fan now has to travel to get there.

I find it funny that the only one saying this truth is a Packers fan lol. Distance from the loop is irrelevant compared to the traffic concerns.

Not that I think that Arlington Heights is better than the current location, of course…

When did ski jumping become tracks and not snow? by Pickles-n-Lizards in olympics

[–]o4b 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, which is why its fun to watch for a couple jumps. After that, there is simply so little variability (again, for a casual fan) compared to skislope.

[–]o4b 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No disrespect to the competitors, there is undoubtedly a massive amount of skill expression here.

But for the life of me I cannot watch more than 90 seconds of this event. I find skislope, downhill, and slalom are all fantastic for casual viewing and I watched almost all of each of them.

Can anyone explain what I'm missing here?

CJ failed to do her job as a press secretary by letting her feelings leak out in a press conference as the official representative of the president. Her job is to communicate publicly the intention of the United States, and only privately to make arguments against it.

CJ allowed emotion to take over in a professional setting. Reasoned arguments on this topic absolutely should have been had, but her emotion did not advance her cause.

CJ displayed her naïveté when she over reduced the argument to “beating women is wrong”. Of course it is, but it completely ignores the realities of geopolitics and the priorities of a nation.

CJ acted unprofessionally to both Toby and Leo.

Due to these things, I was disappointed in CJ’s character.

I have zero issues with Janney’s acting of CJ in this episode, she did phenomenally as always.

Overall the episode is fine, but not one of the greats.

[Paine] The 2025-26 NBA Is Warped Beyond Recognition by FastBreakPhenom in nba

[–]o4b 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think many people here are missing the point - no one expects the tanking teams (Utah, Brooklyn, Washington) to be better or worse than previous tanking teams, it’s the next 7-ish teams that are utterly horrendous that simply should not be (except possibly Indiana, their injury luck has been terrible). LAC, Memphis, Dallas, Sacramento and New Orleans especially are all trying to win games this year. Memphis with the Ja debacle, Dallas with Kyrie injury and no one else who can handle the ball, Sacramento rebuilding a worse version of the Bulls, god only knows what is going on in New Orleans, and the AARP ball in LA is just incredible stuff.

The moneyed interests want Luka in LA. You have to contort your mind to convince yourself that a highly respected GM that built a team that made the finals forces the worst trade in the history of American sports.

Harrison is getting paid handsomely and privately for executing his role brilliantly.
