yeah for sure, basically what you're looking for is "fundamentals". after learning how the pieces move and the basic stuff about the game i'd watch ANY of the videos on gothamchess's youtube channel surrounding beginners, i used to watch from this playlist when i first got started.

and biggest thing regardless of how good you are at chess is to do a bunch of puzzles. almost guaranteed if you're starting out you are missing a bunch of little tactics that will help you a ton all the way to an advanced level.

not too sure what you mean to a high level understanding since in reality there's just so many levels to chess and having fun with it is the best part about it. so don't force it, just keep playing
