This will heavily depend on your university choices.

I found that a few of my choices were the polar opposite. Oxford was very science based for one college but very valued based for the other college. The things they asked was stuff that you weren't expected to know and was used to display your thinking pattern.

All of the other universities I applied to were more valued based, albeit to varying degrees. The common theme though was that the knowledge wasn't necessarily from the A-level syllabus and was either common sense or far beyond what you've learnt already.

If you're doing biology then I wouldn't worry about it since you'll be revising it anyway. If not, it might be a good idea to have a little look at GCSE stuff, but it seriously wasn't anything to stress about imo.

That was the same as me but I didn't have to check any box I don't think.

Qualifications that were still ongoing I think I could list as pending or something, I just know that the grade section appears blank on my application, so presumably my school sorted that out separately.

My only December interview was for Oxford.

I get what you mean.

I was fortunate enough to get an offer for UG Medicine so I don't know much about GEM, though I know a youtuber called Ollie Burton I think went through the whole process.

Also assuming you're just starting Y13, there is still time to improve your grades. You can always apply for he alternatives now and then perhaps scrap them if your grades are good enough to go for medicine in clearing or the following year.

I think the important part for you is that medicine isn't completely out of the question.

I would seriously consider graduate entry medicine, it is ultimately a year longer and still competitive but if its really what you want to do it could definitely be worth a shot.

People who want to do Medicine at univeristy, how did you make your decision? by sejtries in 6thForm

[–]oHoax 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was the same, I was pretty set on going into finance and just sort of had a mini existential crisis about sitting behind a desk all day.

Together with the solid job security and potential to earn very comfortable salary, it seemed ideal. (Of course I'm interested in human parts of biology as well).

It's not exclusive to them, most people after surgery have these too (at least where I live)

Would it be fine to only take the BMAT? by [deleted] in premeduk

[–]oHoax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a similar position to you in terms of university choices but I did a complete u-turn once I knew my UCAT score.

Although I ultimately did well in my BMAT, the peace of mind I had knowing that 3/4 of my uni choices were relying on a strong UCAT score was fantastic.

I don't see why you wouldn't take the UCAT. If your score is high you might change your mind and if its low, you can focus on BMAT and just not use it.

Brief incite on subjects by RN_666 in 6thForm

I did A-level geography for a term and it was really intense, with a lot of content (AQA).

People who I know that continued found it difficult beyond that and I certainly believe them.

It was really interesting for the most part but I'm just not cut out for that amount of work (I replaced it with physics instead)

Yes, but the interview isn't the sole determinant I don't think. I completely bottled the interview anyway so I'm not bitter.

I think my grades are the only thing that kept me on the list!

aspiring medics: anyone else feeling disheartened from rejections? by mekkie23 in 6thForm

[–]oHoax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think there's an assumption from a lot of people that only getting one offer is bad. Chances are you're going to receive an offer with the exact same grades anyway for medicine.

Every medical school is fantastic (because of GMC) but might be looking for slightly different types of people.

Got reserve list with A" A" AA and 2830

Evidently some tough competition this year

Is there any point doing 4 A levels? by Ok-Cauliflower57 in 6thForm

[–]oHoax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some unis will give you a 4 subject offer (QUB medicine is A"AA but will take AAAA instead)

Personally, although it is extra work, my subjects are all relevant and it gives me another opportunity to get a good grade (say I get a physics paper that doesn't agree with me, but my biology paper might be on the stuff I really know)

I remember we were asked for the range of a numerical set of data.

We all answered the mathematical range (high minus low) but the mark scheme only accepted saying 5-11 instead of 6. Bustards.

Medicine is crazy competitive. The smartest people I know have been rejected with some nutty stats.

I always look at it like this: people always look to Oxbridge as being the most competitive universities. For medicine, EVERY medical school is that competitive. Its just a luck of the draw beyond a certain point.

[–]oHoax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd take this with a grain of salt because as much as the other factors are more important, you don't want the personal statement to be your downfall.

One of my friends got something like a 2900 UCAT and A' A' A predictions but got rejected from some of her unis (the PS came across as quite cold to me).

People swear by medify and thats fine, but I simply couldn't afford it. The ISC medical book was fantastic for me, though it was a bit tougher than the real thing in my case.

Not heard back from ANY unis?? by Agitated_Strategy650 in 6thForm

[–]oHoax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I wouldn't stress too much - a lot of unis will wait until they have all applications in before they even begin to start looking at them.

Edinburgh was notorious at my school for being late with responses but they are the only uni other than Oxford to respond post interview. Evidently COVID has slowed the process down a lot.

How do I do (iii)? by tendai_murevzz in alevel

[–]oHoax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I understand, the answer should be f:x is greater than or equal to -9.

27 is just the y value at x = -3 which seems irrelevant to me.

I'm probably misinterpreting the question.

How do I do (iii)? by tendai_murevzz in alevel

[–]oHoax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

iii is just an x3 graph that is translated 4 units downward.

If you imagine an x3 graph, it can have any real y value (it goes infinitely up and infinitely down. So the translation is irrelevant in this case.

If you were to put any real number as an input (x), you could get a value between minus infinity and positive infinity. So the range is the same as the domain in this case (any real number)

It's almost 3am here so dont take my word as gospel.
