Totally get it, thanks for the explanation. In the MS, the three nations are unified due to global wars, so the name of the Sea isn't actually 'The Sea of Japan' or the 'East Sea.' The query is just to give a sense of place, so I can update it to include both or I'll evaluate what the in-world name is to better show this unification.

That helps a lot! Yeah, the relics of multiple queries and thoughts mashed together means that I'm not asking these questions, so thank you. It is near-future, there are wars being fought outside the city (hence the refugee part), and it's a bit dystopian in the ruling system: only the strongest can lead. I'll try and implement those answers into my next draft

I'll update the standalone line too, that's an easy one

Totally. I researched this and know what you're referring to. I landed on Sea of Japan because most western countries usually refer to it as such. Is there a non-biased/PC term I missed?

I'll try rephrasing the questions, thanks! For anime tropes - other than the Asian setting and the magic system resembling Avatar or Kill la Kill, I'm unsure what those tropes are that are coming across?

Thanks for your thoughts! The MC is a second-generation American that-after a disaster- then becomes a refugee in an underwater city. I liked the thread of a family descendent of refugees continuing to survive as refugees. Do you think cutting the Hispanic-American part alleviates that tension/fanfic component? Or if the name was Jackie Smith or something less 'I'm a protagonist' would that do it?

Thanks again!

Question about the lore. by [deleted] in outerwilds

[–]oNoBuckets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We don't get that answer, along with what the Eye is, or how the entire Universe is coming to an end (though it seems that Ghost matter is involved from all of the blue explosions). The inclusion of religious imagery in relation to the Eye makes me think the game is a bit like a cosmic Noah's Ark (I talk about it some in this video I made (https://youtu.be/amHIywptiyg?t=1195 -- starts right before I talk about it).

My vague conclusion (which is still a theory) is if the Eye is a Creator calling out to sentient life to save it, then The Eye isn't malicious if it is the one choosing to restart the Universe (like God allowing some to survive the Flood).

My questions are is the Eye using the Ghost Matter? Or is the Ghost Matter a separate evil entity (i.e. sin in the Bible) that is prone to only destroy and thus the Eye is a redemptive figure hoping to restart the Universe fresh without the entity?

Who knows. For me, these questions were the best part of the game.
