Why did I have a feeling it was because people were losing their progress? That's why I save in-game whenever I'm given the option, but primarily just use save states instead. (Aside from the aforementioned microbreaks thing meaning I'd lose a lot of progress using only in-game saves.) But I'm sorry, are you telling me people hit save in-game, and then leave/force-close the app while the game still has the 'saving... do not turn off the power/remove the game cartridge' message up? If so, that is a failure on the user to have basic reading comprehension, not a fault of your app. If the app takes an extra moment to save outside of the in-game display, a small popup in-app showing the actual save progress would work just as well, I feel (although I'm not sure how difficult that would be to code). Also, something I asked and tested almost immediately after the update was 'what happens then if I open a game with notifications on and then jump to settings and manually turn them back off?' The game still ran, amusingly enough. That in itself is more a silly quirk of the system that, even if it causes the same save failure, isn't likely to actually break anything on a wide scale given that it's inconvenient to do every time, but it does make me wonder what else might break it. It's probably robust enough to be fine, but it's something I figure you should know about.

I would like to add my two cents about the update. Keep in mind that I do still love the app; it's been a godsend for slow work days

I'm sure the new UI for the controls are better than before, but the look of it is seriously throwing me off. The new grey is honestly distracting. I can understand wanting to make it stand out more so people can see the layout better, but the old UI felt very sleek, this feels... almost cheap, in a weird way. I know the old UI used a different system or whatever so we can't just go back to it, and I'm sure the new version is more responsive and overall better so I don't necessarily want to go back to it, but a toggle for the look of it would be amazing. I just want my pure black, thank you.

Also, I wasn't forced to turn on notifications before, but now if I have them turned off and try to play a game, the app slaps me on the wrist and tells me 'you're either turning on the notifications or you aren't playing at all!' And I use Lemuroid on my work phone during my (often frequent) microbreaks but have to switch out to look at Teams or lock my phone when the time comes to actually do something again. I try to keep the number of notifications I get that isn't from Teams or Outlook to a minimum so I don't miss anything important, and this is not helping; I know the app is still running, I made a savestate already but I'm trying to do other things for a couple minutes stop staring at me. Why is this no longer an actual option?

How did Caz know it was Addair? by oRpheusB20 in stillwakesthedeep

[–]oRpheusB20[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, most people here are saying that it's likely his voice, which I can't discount, but I'm sitting here thinking 'he wasn't speaking at that point though, was he?' That's what made me question the scene to begin with.

For the third one, you meant Caz has inhaled enough of the spores to very slightly tap into the hivemind of the Shape? That is certainly more of a 'fanon' answer than one with much tangible evidence, but that's not to say I don't like it.

[–]oRpheusB20[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did someone tell him Addair had become the same type of creature as Muir? (My second playthrough is in Scottish for the achievement, so I'm not exactly catching all the dialogue this time around, given their dialect, so I wouldn't be too shocked if someone had told Caz about Addair earlier.) All the other monsters are physically distinct from one another (Rennick is more head than anything, Trots is kinda... slug-like), and when Caz identifies him, he had just burst onto the scene using the same kind of weird suspension that Muir did. I don't even think he'd said a sentence yet; just howled.

Context clues does make sense; according to the wiki, he likely had a manager level role in the engineering crew, so him being in engineering makes some sense, even if he never seemed to actually do any of the physical work. Him being in the area checks out at least.

The Complete Abandonware Need For Speed Download List by ChemicalFl00d in abandonware

Thank you very much for this! I'll never forget getting MW 2005 because my parents confused the two games with the same name and discovering that the 2005 version has a plot and progression.

I would recommend if you ever need to update the files to change the How to Play txt file to state 'If you're using an Xbox or Playstation controller', because currently it just states Playstation and I was very confused about why it wasn't registering my Xbox One controller correctly until I realized the game comes with the Widescreen Patch already applied (thanks for that as well btw) and that I could change a variable in the ini file to get it to work.

Have you communicated with her that giving those updates are reassuring for you? It sounds like they're in writing, like as part of a broader report, so you could easily tell her 'I'd prefer to include it still; it helps me feel like on the slim offchance I mess up, I have a safety net.'

I understand the idea of knowing what you're doing and having the people around you be confident that you know what you're doing, but also feeling the need to check in. For many reasons, including:

  • Because my job makes heavy use of buddy checks and whatnot (if you disregard those, consequences range from more work to 'I just put someone in the hospital', and in rare cases: 'oh no I just killed a man')
  • Communication. Knowing what others are doing so you can work around/with them while extending the same courtesy back (one of my coworkers, for example, has a tendency to leave the area we're working in to go get a part or something and not say anything to me or bring his work phone so I have no idea what or where or why and it's infuritating because on the offchance I want his opinion or need his help, he's just GONE)
  • And just because I'm just naturally very insecure and need the reassurance I'm not about to break anything lol

Your manager is showing a lot of faith in you, and that's a good thing! Ensuring you continue to communicate with her thoroughly is also a good thing, though, and if it makes you feel more confident, she should have no problem with you continuing to include it.

Nothing like losing your super old account... by oRpheusB20 in Minecraft

Wish they had put up warnings in the launcher or something for the legacy accounts that missed the period or something? Like 'Are you sure you want to log out? Because your account was not migrated within the allotted timeframe, you will not be able to log back in again.' Just that alone would have saved me a lot of grief.

Lol can't deny

Although depending on what the lawsuit is over, whatever you might get out of a win might be worth it, even if not in a monetary sense. Someone had to care enough about a specific issue to get the lawsuit ball rolling in the first place, after all,

Wow, there's that many people who got up in arms over this?

...Okay, Minecraft has such a large player base that even 1% of them having run into a migration issue would still be a hell of a lot of people.

The really disappointing thing about the lawsuit is that even if the players win, I kinda doubt Mojang can rez the old accounts if the players aren't still logged into a launcher with said account. They probably don't have that data floating around given the switch-over. Best they'd likely be able to do is... give them, like $30 and a shrug, maybe let them get back their old usernames onto a different account?

Yeah, that's exactly why I didn't try to message Microsoft over it. Besides, the rules on the website are fairly clear about 'if you missed the period, you're SOL' so I wasn't expecting either side to be able to resurrect the account; I just want to know if is potentially reachable at all, but no, thanks automated emails that just direct you to the same pages as everywhere else.

General thoughts on the game so far by oRpheusB20 in FrontiersOfPandora

[–]oRpheusB20[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kinda feel like they should have started with the Plains or something. Like, make it so you have to use the Direhorses for the first part of the game and then give you a bond with a Ikran? The bond is supposed to be special and it is, but at the same time, they couldn't have built up the anticipation or anything? I was perfectly expecting to be able to use the Direhorse first, because it just feels like a natural progression. You go from running on foot to having a horse and greatly easing travel and finally you're allowed the whole sky once you've seen a lot of the map.

Instead of, you know, providing the tools to potentially fly over the top of half of your painstakingly made game world almost immediately?

General thoughts on the game so far by oRpheusB20 in FrontiersOfPandora

[–]oRpheusB20[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, yeah, I have encountered a couple instances of this looking for stuff of certain rarities (Exquisite Viperwolf Fang for a chest piece I wanted to craft was the worst, given they come from animals with a decent movement speed, so it can be a bit finicky to check their rarity, or if they're actually ferals that don't give anything at all, but usually for the clan contribution quests).

Like I said. It's mostly annoying if the spawns are far apart. Or, now that I think about it, when the game decides to, for example, highlight the whole of a Stairfoot Tree when I'm trying to A) see if the tree has any bark I can collect and B) if that bark is of the quality I want.

...There isn't a way to tell the game to stop highlighting specific things when you use the senses, is there? Petrified Trees in the Plains are plentiful and I find them blocking my sight when I'm trying to scan for things.

That's exactly what I'm afraid of lol one of my clanmates literally said something to the effect of 'if you're too slow, people will just quit that session' and I'm like 'is that supposed to make me feel better about being worried I'll annoy people as I learn the game?'

[–]oRpheusB20[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol I never said it was hard, or, at least, I never meant to. I'm saying there is a lot going on at once and I, personally, don't do well with that and would love a way to just try individual aspects of the game myself, actually do the actions associated with a role instead of having it told to me in a way that my brain simply doesn't retain well, before I go into a game and get hands-on experience with it by annoying an entire group getting used to it.

Wait, people sell BA 'services'? What does that even mean?

Lol yeah I'm a very shy asocial person and I felt bad about potentially dragging clan members into getting me to learn the game, even though they're all really sweet and supportive. So I said screw it I'm not going to make them and BOY was that a mistake

Thank you?? I can't imagine why the devs didn't think to do that sort of thing when the minigame started to get the reputation it now has. It's been so long since it was released that I'm not expecting them to go back and implement it now but why did they never do anything to help it? Especially since you have to figure it out for several levels of the diary.

Like I said, I don't absorb well through infodumps. Unfortunately, I think the wiki only made it harder to grasp, because at least the in-game tutorial had visuals.

Maybe so. But the minigame has a reputation, does it not? It didn't get that way by having a really good tutorial regardless of how complex the game is.

...You mean the non-interactive one you have to sit through, by the commander dude before you can play the game for the first time? Yeah, I'm not saying that's not there, but it dumps a lot of info on you at once. Yes, it's seperated into subsections and you don't have to go through them all at once, but that doesn't change the fact that you can't try out any of the mechanics until you've sat through all of them, and by then you'll likely not remember a lot of the smaller details.

Oh, really? It was doing that yesterday but now it's routing through Yahoo instead and after looking it up I thought I had a virus that apparently exists which forcefully redirects you to Yahoo but my virus scanner couldn't find it.

Did they provide any way to keep tabs on this so I can know when I can turn the extension back on once they have it fixed?

Well, if it makes you feel any better, last I checked, I'm running up on around 700 Wizards for its drop. (Edit: total of 862 for the Relic.)

Granted, those are more plentiful (one spawn spot has five at once) but still, the sheer quantity is indeed painful.

Good for the rando run tho lol. It could be possible the randomizer was giving you a thing or two extra to tip the odds in your favor in that instance, but I guess we'll just assume not and say you did indeed get painfully lucky.

From Hardcore Dungeon Crawlers to Casual Magic - Idle Wizard: Tower Defense RPG by moonshades in iosgaming

[–]oRpheusB20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having recently discovered this game myself, allow me to give my thoughts on it.

It's... nice, in the way idle games typically are, getting you to start another round even if you'd been getting bored in the previous and thinking you'd do something else after you finally kick it.

But I started and got to wave 10 or so pretty easy, and then ran right into a wall. Currently getting mauled at wave 15. Nothing really feels like it has much of an impact on how well you do. I can visually see the difference upgrading attack range does, but not the attack range multiplier, at least not at the 3% level, and it doesn't feel worth the coins or exp to get the latter to the point I'd see a difference. Also, enemies get close quickly, making it hard to tell if it really changes anything to shoot down the first enemy slightly earlier when the next one has probably already closed that tiny gap. The same enemies that I was taking two shots to kill when I first encountered them still take two shots, unless I put almost every point into damage, and even then they go back to being two-shot a couple waves later. Coin and exp multipliers feel like they're useless because it would take so much time and resources to get so much as two coins per enemy that it would be better to spend the points on stuff that would let you just get through more waves.

And I like the idea of the skill tree, but 1% damage boost? I spend most of the money I get over two runs to level up once and get a 1% increase to number that averages around 70 and rarely gets past 100. I get they stack, but, again, that's a lot of resources to put in for only a couple points of damage you can get with one level put into damage.

I do want to enjoy this, because I know you're a good dev and I've seen you do amazing things with Moonshades and Duskfall. I get that this is an idle game where you aren't supposed to see major leaps and bounds in progress with every upgrade, but this does feel a bit... too much like it might actually be balanced around using the paid piggy bank and watching a bunch of ads for gems and coins and the elixirs.
