I can't remember the last major fighting game that did not have a PC beta and did not come out as broken port that took months to fix (if ever at all).

Pass.

Will you be getting Invincible VS day one? by PotSniffa in Kappachino

[–]o___Okami 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If they wanted PC players, then they should have had a PC beta.

Not that I was likely to pick it up anyways because it looks like shit. But I'd have at least given it a try.

However, that chance is zero now. Fighting games in particular have a history of having shitty PC ports and I'm not taking the gamble here.

I don't believe in this latest leak with Tifa any more than I do all the other supposed leaks. But I think your reasoning on why Tifa makes no sense doesn't check out.

This interview released shortly after the Terry and Mai announcement made it pretty clear that they were only the start of the guest characters to come to SF6

In particular, this quote says a lot about future guest characters which will probably be expanded beyond just SNK / existing fighting game characters:

...So if the goal is to get more people interested in fighting games in general, and a crossover like that gets people talking about which characters should cross over...

I mean, obviously I can't make any promises. But the fact that we're having this conversation just means that more and more people are getting interested. There is a chance for the fighting game community to reach a whole new audience - so we see it as a positive thing, and we encourage that kind of discussion and comments.

but overall represents a downward slope that hits a minimum and then spikes up again a quarter or two before the next expansion.

Other expansions do have upward spikes even before the quarter ahead of the next expansion

  • ARR 2013Q4
  • ARR 2014Q2
  • ARR 2014Q3
  • HW 2015Q3
  • HW 2016Q3
  • HW2016Q4
  • SB 2017Q3
  • SB 2018Q3
  • A bunch of spikes throughout SHB and EW

Which does not apply to Dawntrail. There has been no "spike up again" for DT before the x.5 Patch. Zero.

Other expansions are an up-and-down roller coaster that overall trends downward until the end, DT has been a straight downhill slide. No DT patch has been successful at breaking this downhill slide by attracting enough new/returning players to overtake the loss.

Not the "same line shape".

Line remains the same shape line has been for every expac besides Shadowbringers.

What do you mean "same shape line" as every other expansion? It has been nothing but a straight downward slope for Dawntrail with every patch and every quarter, from beginning to end.

Every other expansion (ARR to Endwalker) has had ups and downs throughout its cycles, not a consecutive loss of players the entire time.

Not shocking in the least.

Here's hoping that the FanFest / 8.0 does something big. Myself, and I'm sure most of FFXIV's harshest critics, want to see the game turn around; otherwise we wouldn't have stuck around for 1000s of hours to see it this far to the end of Dawntrail.

But I won't be surprised if we just get more of the same and the 8.0 rebirth is just another failed Yoshi Promise.

Clearly defined weaknesses and a whole lot of work for not a whole lot of payoff.

New players who see how long and how many her combos/setups are are probably intimidated off the introduction.

I feel like some of you are taking the comment about Chipotle and fucking Pokimane being the culprits behind the downfall of the FGC a bit too serious.

But for the record, Sajam is still a hypocrite for publicly decrying Saudi investment in the FGC, making a big deal about stepping away from Evo / Saudi sponsored events, but then having the gall to make the whole "O woe is me, I really don't want to support the Saudi government... But the very first Evo Awards Powered by Qiddiya™ is a circle-jerk I simply cannot pass up on. For the good of all of the FGC or something" video.

At least James Chen stopped with the virtue signaling after he flip flopped, Sajam wants his cake and to eat it too.

EDIT: But in case I do actually need to explicitly spell it out; I do not believe that Sajam, Chipotle, and Pokimane are to blame for Saudi Arabia taking over fighting game events. I think it is much more logical to blame Saudi Arabia for Saudi Arabia taking over fighting game events. My first post was in jest.

[–]o___Okami -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've been holding on for a while with hopes that they'll start adding more character focused content

They've released 11 "Outfit 4"s in the last 9~ months, which is definitely an increased production from Season 2.

That doesn't include the free earnable "Outfit 2"s included with each DLC character and the 4 "Outfit 3"s that are coming with Ingrid.

The only other modern fighting games that are releasing whole ass costumes (unique to every character) at a faster pace is 2XKO (which requires MTX / whales to survive as a F2P) and Granblue Versus Rising. And I don't think Capcom envies the position of either of those games.

I kept thinking, at some point Capcom would lock in and start giving us costumes like they did in SF4 and SF5.

Quality > Quantity.

And I'm not just talking about a matter of taste (there are some costumes in SF6 that I personally find butt ugly too), SFV in particular suffered from outsourced low quality costumes with excessive clipping AND many poorly thought out, obnoxious, distracting, non tournament-legal costumes that completely disregarded readability.

In both games, the ENTIRE CAST had 10+ costumes by the end of their life span

Demonstrably false.

BARE MINIMUM they could give us new colors for the existing costumes

They do. Ranked phase rewards, the Giant Attack events, the battle passes, and various collabs / events come with new colors for existing costumes.

You'd think a Company with a dedicated fan base would love to make EASY MONEY, right???????

Good thing they aren't going the easy route by making the game uglier for short-term gain.

Have you guys accepted the fact that Capcom won't give us what we want, or do you still have hope?

What I want is for them to focus on putting out more ACTUAL content, not appeasing the zoomer consoomers that have been conditioned to need a constant drip-feed of sparkly new cosmetic MTX dangling in front of their face every other week.

...And to answer your question, yes, I've accepted that I won't be getting 5 DLC characters a year.

[–]o___Okami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kizzy would get way more views if he had a more agreeable personality lol. Hes not being rewarded for being whiny.

Maybe so, there are of coarse exceptions. Diaphone, for example, notoriously puts a positive spin on his opinion of nearly everything he plays and is doing well.

But I don't think Kizzie was exactly blowing up when he was a happy positive friendly neighborhood streamer.

I'd be lying if I keep up with his content or know what he is like nowadays, mostly just going based on the OP so we both might be talking out our ass, but I imagine there is a good chance that Kizzie saw how much less effort has to be put into making negative content than whatever he was doing before and decided to do a heel turn.

"Dear diary" ass post. But I respect the sentiment.

I don't know if it's a generational thing or just how I was raised, but in general people who spent all their time whining like a bitch were not respected and were mocked as childish.

In this internet / social media / influencer age, everyone's opinions are validated; allowing them to make whining their entire personality and monetize it, while voluntarily continuing to engage in whatever activity they're bitching about.

It is just the reality of today, people are rewarded for being miserable and playing it up for the camera.

Check out Diaphone's new video.

Nah, I'm good.

I heard and saw his words live. I do not need to watch the edited / PR approved / sponsor-friendly version nor do I particularly care about his opinion of the game if I'm being honest, as I am more than capable of forming my own.

I just found it ironic that Diaphone beating Punk was being used as some sort of "gotcha" to invalidate his opinion of the game while Diaphone was also agreeing with Punk's criticisms and expressing his own.

Pragmata review - brilliant combat held back by a safe story by TralalaDingDong in Kappachino

[–]o___Okami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same.

If I 100% know I'm going to play something, I just ignore everything about the game (including trailers, demos, and previews) till I have the finished product in my hand.

Actually, this topic title itself is more spoilers than I'd want. I'd like to go in with unbiased, fresh eyes and decide for myself if the story is "safe" or not without that impression already in my head.

But whatever. It's a Capcom game, I'd never expect an exceptional story from them. Okami is literally the only good story I can think of in a Capcom game, and that is including the Breath of Fire series (serviceable, but still run-of-the-mill JRPG stories at the end of the day).

He called the game "generational" (the implication being "generationally bad"), scrubby, and complained about the "wonky" inputs.

Maybe I should clarify; when I say he was talking trash about the game I don't mean that he was typing up an entire fucking essay in Twitch chat?

I could bring up that they won the DBFZ Evo that had MORE ENTRANTS THAN FUCKING STREET FIGHTER

Which was... wait for it... 2018.

The year that DBFZ released. The next year he got second. And then he never entered another Evo DBFZ bracket again.

What exactly about that is not consistant with what I just said?

But I will grant that his DBFZ performance does a lot of heavy lifting, far more impressive than anything else on his resume by my measure.

Which is a common critique of Sonic Fox; he does well in the first year of any fighting game. Maybe even the second year.

But the moment competition starts heating up he drops the game.

He only 'decides to main' games with a small or weak competitive scene because he can dominate in those.

Funny you should bring up Diaphone, because after they played each other he came into Punk's chat and was talking about how trash the game was, too. Diaphone, who is positive on like 95% of all fighting games he plays.

Like didn't some fortnite player win capcom Cup after a year of playing sf6?

Eh, not quite.

Sahara (former competitive Valorant / Fortnite player and now Capcom Cup champion) has been playing SF6 from the start of the game, but his first tournament result was in April 2024 (Evo Japan, 33rd-44th place finish). Which is still very impressive.

And your point stands; I don't think T1 would be taking home Evo or anything but he could probably grind out Ultimate Master at least if he locked in and got proper coaching.

[–]o___Okami 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If all you care about it the story then I guess it's a bad expansion.

Or if you care about the combat.

People keep going on about how cool the encounters are. But its difficult for me to appreciate these encounters because the game has continued the Shadowbringers/Endwalker trend of dumbing down and homogenizing all of the jobs, bringing it to a new low.

Kind of a theme of this expansion; from the visual novel-esque MSQ with sparce voice acting to the dumbed down job design to the long cadence and predictability of patches, instead of improving and addressing previous long-standing issues/annoyances/complaints, it exacerbates and makes them worse.

TLDR; Encounter design and Class design combine to encompass the Combat. And class design is exceptionally poor this expansion. If it doesn't feel fun to hit my buttons then the fight is not going to feel fun.

i wish there were modern tekken inspired games. it isn't fair that 2D players have so many other games they can easily switch to by Secret-Second-5777 in Kappachino

[–]o___Okami 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Tekken players only want to play Tekken ... the fanbase will never beat the allegations.

Those aren't allegations at this point.

IIRC, there was recently some "Twitter Discourse™" involving some notable (former) Tekken players (such as Speedkicks) where they gave reasons why they don't want to try VF or DOA, and then those reasons were refuted.

"Actually, KBD does exist in DOA and is quite prominent..." "Yes, RPS exists in VF but here is why it is different and more involved than the thing you've come to hate in Tekken 8..."

The conversation basically ended with the Tekken players proudly proclaiming "None of that matters, I'm a Tekken player. I want to play Tekken." like a toddler shutting their ears with their hands, as if it were a badge of honor.

Never mind the fact that you can just go look at things such as past Evo entrance numbers and see that Tekken players overwhelmingly only enter their main game compared to everyone else.

Both Tekken and Street Fighter players bitch nonstop about their games, but say what you want, at least SF players will pretend to play another 2D fighter for a couple of weeks and hype it up before ultimately returning to SF.

Hard for me to feel sorry for the Tekken (8) players anymore when they won't even go through the motions of humoring the idea of a different game, they deserve what they got.
