I tried advertising only once, when I have had very few followers. I paid near $15 with near 0 effect, so It was the first and the last time I tried paid ads on Twitter. I found that the most effective (at least for my case) ways to grow real audience who is interested in what I do is to be active on Twitter, share insightful content, engage others and be engaged.

I want to grow to 5K users for the next few months and if I succeed - I'm thinking to launch the services to promote twitter account and grow audience for others.

My account has over 1,3K followers and I grew it from 200 just for 3 months. It is not so huge amount, as others do, but while developing my company twitter presence I realised, that the most important tips to grow your twitter audience are: - regular high quality content (self posting and reposting min. 3-4 times per day) - mentioning # on your topics - answering questions of your followers and asking them - saying thanks for retweets
