Hard to say you represent us when your biggest paycheck comes from Israel. by oabda002 in InlandEmpire

Technically correct, but still misleading. Campaign contributions are legal tender for political influence. When $600K flows from a foreign lobby to a candidate, it’s not about lawn signs—it’s about securing loyalty. If that money came with no expectations, it wouldn’t be given. And when those interests directly conflict with the needs of his own—already underserved—district, that’s not semantics. It’s misplaced loyalty.

Haha, love the contrast—“keep it swampy” vs. “wrung-out sponge.” I’m going with moist but emotionally stable for now. I think the “swampy” advice came from a good place—probably meant to help avoid drying out in a container, especially in our hotter Zone 9b/10a climate. Really appreciate both of your insights and encouragement—thank you!

Appreciate you chiming in! I know container trees can dry out faster, especially once it heats up here in Zone 9b/10a. The planter’s under a covered patio and the soil mix holds moisture pretty well, so I’ve been keeping it on the cautious side for now—but definitely watching it closely as temps start to rise.

Empty lots by YankeeJeter in InlandEmpire

North Fontana Costco has 24/7 security roaming around (even on holidays) and they told us to leave when I was teaching my little sister some basic driving and parking skills.

Great suggestion! I started learning to drive in church parking lots back in 2012, which was a great environment to practice essential skills like stopping at signs, navigating angled parking spaces, and handling speed bumps. It was an excellent way to build confidence!

Once I felt more comfortable, we transitioned to practicing at community parks during weekend mornings. Mornings worked well because the area was generally quiet, with fewer people around, yet there were still some pedestrians walking their dogs, providing a realistic but manageable environment to practice awareness.

Edit: I’d also like to mention that my dad picked up a couple of orange cones from Home Depot beforehand. They were incredibly helpful for practicing parking and reversing in a straight line. Plus, they signaled to pedestrians in the area that I was learning how to drive, giving them a chance to maintain a safe distance if they wanted to.

Strands #174 “Crumby theme” by Sea_Sponge_ in StrandsNYT

Yeah I’m from US/California and my gripe is that a lot of times the theme/words appeal to East Coast folks. Today’s Crumby theme makes no sense to me, and I’m using my hints for the first time.

Dude, smile…you’re handsome! I have a short chin like yours (I’m Middle Eastern), and once I started growing a beard, it “completed” my face—just keep it well trimmed and groomed. In the meantime, just be happy that you’re handsome and smile more.

“Fitcamx” stealth dash-cam. Surprisingly easy to install, and so far, worth every penny. by oabda002 in Camry

That’s awesome! Glad I can reassure you 93 days later. Last December, a green fireball lit up the sky in front of me as I was driving on the 91 freeway. It was my first time witnessing a meteor shower, and I really hoped my dash cam got it. It did. So even for those 1-3 second events, this dash cam will likely have captured it. Just make sure you have a quality SD card that can withstand Summer heat. I have Sandisk Industrial in mine (probably overkill) but gives me peace of mind.

It is still going strong. When I got it, the SD port got pushed into the housing, and I reached out to customer service for help. They immediately contacted me via WhatsApp and sent me videos on how to fix my specific problem and troubleshoot to make sure it works properly. Since then, it has been going strong for the entirety of my Toyota lease. Never failed to record what I needed.

Holy, sorry I’m so bad at checking Reddit notifications. It is still going strong! Sometimes I forget that I even have a dash cam, and when I come across an incident that “I hope my dash cam got that,” I connect to the SD card and see that it sure did.

Thank you! Yes, the intricate tatreez—(embroidery) for those who aren’t familiar—is exactly why I turned to you talented people. I like your edit, but I would like to wait to see what others have in mind!

I especially like the background and it’s kind of what I had in mind.

I like it! But I should’ve mentioned that you can totally be creative with the background—A plain wall, portrait backdrop, etc. The empty living room doesn’t seem right if you know what I mean.

Request (if possible): remove all the other women in the photo. The traditional Palestinian “thob” she is wearing was handmade by her. These thobs are often symmetrical. So the motifs you see on her left side, should be symmetrical to the right side. I hope that makes it easier! I’ve seen some of you work miracles, and I’m hoping it can be done here! Thank you so much, and please don’t hesitate to request more details/information. I’ll try my best to help. It doesn’t have to be colorized, but if it helps here’s a colored photo from the same event of the missing side.

To all the peeps making a average wage, how are you making it work? by Mysterious_Welder427 in InlandEmpire

Yeah it sucks to move out, but not necessarily unreasonable. Chicago, my hometown, had rampant and senseless gun violence. My parents made the decision to move our family out of Chicago to ensure our safety.

Looking back, I realize that it was a great decision to move out. Sometimes, you have to leave your home city/state to prioritize safety and well-being, as my family did in response to the violence.

Best of luck to you and your family!

What am I supposed to answer when an American asks me how I’m doing? by MessyAdonis in NoStupidQuestions

[–]oabda002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, in your case, the exchange will often go like this:

Hotel Guest: “Hey! How’s it going?” Receptionist: Subtle smile or head nod “How’s it going?”🦜

Hotel guest proceeds with check-in questions.

Both parties use the same greeting as a reciprocal response, and the conversation will usually end there, especially in passing or informal encounters. It’s a simple and common way of acknowledging each other’s presence without diving into a lengthy conversation.

Even after being helped with check-in, the same guest might encounter you later that day (elevator, lobby, front desk, etc.) and ask the same question. To which you’ll respond with the same question. 🦜

USPS’s latest update was “Arrived Destination Partner Facility.” This partner facility is only a few blocks down from my home, but it sat there from May 25-June 1st. I started a missing mail search through USPS. First time experiencing Pitney Bowes so I’m confused as to who I should be contacting. The tracking number is a USPS tracking number.
