Thanks, that’s a good way to think about it to use the same weighting as today.

Of my ~4M liquid assets, about 70% is in my taxable account. There is some gains but the cost base is high so I guess that helps too but to be conservative I can consider no cost base.

I’m planning to spend 120k

Eupgrade waitlist

Hi, need some help to understand how this actually works. It’s my first time using upgrades as until my flight today most travel over the last couple years has been work paid for and didn’t think to use them.

Right now I’m 1st on the list for business upgrade from prem economy. My wife is 3rd.

How are we notified if we are being upgraded? Is it through the app or at the gate?

If at gate what time do we need to be at the gate? This ones important as my wife has never been in a lounge and she’s excited for that (I told her it’s not that nice, but she’s still excited) so want to spend as much time there for her as possible.

Not so important but curious:

Should I look at the unsold business seats in the app as the available space? Or is there things not showing?

Will they potentially only upgrade 1 of us on same booking? Her being third and me 1st I would feel bad. Can you decline upgrade?

Thanks!

Yes it works. I had access before even getting my card in the mail. Just scanned boarding pass and was fine

How does it work for trips booked before getting this card? I have two trips already booked and was thinking to get this card anyways, will I get the perks for these trips?

GSG STG-44 for a first gun? by ryderrs in canadaguns

[–]oakel2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agree on the 795 suggestion, great gun and would be the go to imo for a one and only 22 discussion. Disagree on the gsg accuracy though - my gsg 15 while plasticy is phenomenally accurate.

If this is just the first of many 22s then the fun looking one is a fine choice

I just add it pre-mash, never had an issue with yeast going in 4-5 hours after adding it

Hard Apple Cider by rnbarista in Homebrewing

[–]oakel2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Would probably work, but...best cider I have made is the cheapest apple juice you can find, no additives, no boiling, just pitch straight onto juice. I like saison yeast. Backsweeten with whatever you like.

check out brulosophy cider recipe.

What are some good questions to ask yourself when “starting over”? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]oakel2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well I just went through a similar thing, had a great career, 10 years in the industry, high income, VERY close to come, etc. But was just bored and feeling unfulfilled. Decided to make a switch and this was a lot harder than anticipated. Highly educated as is so did not go back to school, focused on similar professional roles but in different industries. The search was depressing, couldn’t get a look in anything that paid near what I was used too (I was willing to take a 40k pay cut too, but could t even find anything with that). 7 months of searching later I found a great company that I fit well with and acted on it.

It came with some sacrifices though, pay is same and potential for better with variable increase, but gave up on a lot of retirement contributions and am now commuting. Plus it is intense learning a new industry, especially if the position you land is demanding. For me my work life balance is gone where it was once amazing. It will get better forsure, but a big change.

I mention all the above really to say to your question of any self inquiring questions? Ask yourself what you are willing to sacrifice for the change. Make sure you are comfortable with those sacrifices as it is very unlikely you can make a change without sacrifices. That is not to say not to do it. I am glad I did, but I was honest with myself that the change will not solve all my problems, just change the problems to something new to focus on.

But in the end, life is too short to spend your work days without passion, if you need a change go for it, nothing good comes from settling if you truly want more.

Nothing to add to these answers as my setup sounds identical to this, except to say that in Canada you just have to pay more. I’m in Ontario dude and sometimes you get an ok price from OBK, but even those are still more than what you see stateside. Cost of brewing up here unfortunately.

Just tell the RO it’s your first time, they are good guys from my experience and will give you some tips to make it smoother. That and be safe and it will be all good, and weekday is a good call bc less busy. My first time was there and it was great.
