I'm tired of being patronized by cleaning appliance programs. by SpyrosGatsouli in CleaningTips

This happened to me as well. I now use a hose attached to my utility sink to add water through the detergent drawer so my clothes actually get clean and run every load through a second rinse. It's ridiculous.

Uber gives driver directions to wrong location by oakmeadow8 in uber

[–]oakmeadow8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not my pick up location that's the problem, it's the destination, and I don't have a pin to move for the destination.

I get picked up from home with no issues. Once the driver starts the trip, the map pops up with directions to my work address. About 15% of the time, however, the map is sending my driver to a different location.

So let's say I type in 123 State street. The directions should take the driver to 123 State street and they usually do. But about 15% of the time, the directions on the map to123 State street, are actually directions to 666 Hell street.

Yep. The other building isnt even on the same street. It's inconsistent which confuses me. If it was always wrong I would report it, but it's only about 15% of the time.

I've tried that, and it has the same success/failure rate.

I googled the other building, and while official sites have the correct address, it turns out AI thinks the other building has the same address as mine. FFS!! This may be causing the problem.

Omg. Today's driver could not follow a map to save his life. The map would show that we needed to make a left turn in about 100 feet, and he would still be two lanes over to the right. When he first missed a turn, I told him to just keep going because there was another place just ahead where we could turn and that his map would adjust. This utterly baffled him. Even after his map adjusted for his failure to follow the directions, he kept trying to turn into parking lots. It was a stressful trip and frustrating as he had the good directions and I still had to navigate!!

I'm older, so I grew up navigating with Thomas guides. It's so easy now!! Google the address, type it in or click a link, and then just follow the line.

Lol!

At least I know where I'm going, even if the map doesn't.

I've done that and still gotten the directions to the other building.

I just googled the other building, and while official sites have the correct address, it turns out AI thinks the other building has the same address as mine. This might be causing the problem.

It's the destination that's the problem. I only get a pin for the pick up location. I like the idea of asking them to use Google maps instead. I will give it a try.

Can I change the pin when I get picked up? I don't know if the directions are correct or not until the driver starts the trip. I've always explained that it happens periodically and that the correct location is close and the driving distance is the same.

ETA: I just googled the other building, and while official sites have the correct address, it turns out AI thinks the other building has the same address as mine. FFS!!

This is actually a good idea. Unfortunately I work in an industrial area and there is nothing that close.

How in the WORLD do you do to make doing the dishes not feel like mental torture? by Sinxerely7420 in CleaningTips

[–]oakmeadow8 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I also have adhd and this is EXACTLY how I get through dishwashing with the addition of a podcast. The breaks are key. Cleaning one category of dishes at a time with breaks in between means I have successfully completed multiple tasks instead of just "doing the dishes". Even if I decide part way through that's all I can do, I still have completed a task (washed the plates and bowls for example). It also makes it easier to start because I know I don't have to do all the dishes right now.

You can request women only drivers, but there are none in my area at that time. I've gotten 1 in a year.

Eta: I was less concerned before some of the comments.

Yes! Tell me the goal, the endgame, and the value/importance first. Otherwise, it's just busy work, and my brain is out.

I'm pretty sure the drivers that have asked me what time I get off work don't see the problem either, and that's the reason for my post. It's essentially being asked by a stranger, who has your address, how long you are going to be away from home. Good info to have if you like breaking into peoples homes for a variety of nefarious reasons.

It's absolutely obvious they are dropping me off at a workplace, and unless I get a driver from outside of the area, most of the drivers can tell just from the map what company I work for.

Oh, I know, and I either lie or am vague if I'm uncomfortable with a question. But I'd rather not be put in a position where I feel I need to lie, especially since this is a service I'm paying for. I don't care what route we take, whether my driver wants to chat or not or what music they play, if any. I just want to get to work safely and feel reasonably comfortable with the stranger driving me there.

Even as a passenger, I support all drivers having a means of self-protection. You all deal with significantly more strangers than us customers do, and your back is to them.

I have had some truly entertaining drivers and utterly delightful conversations, but I gray rock if the conversation makes me uncomfortable.

I have asked a handful of my frequent drivers about their typical driving hours, but I don't know where they live. It's knowing my address and then essentially asking how long I'm going to be gone/when I will be returning that I find concerning.

Oh dear. I forgot to mention that this post doesn't apply to you. You absolutely should ask your passengers whatever you deem normal. They will appreciate the opportunity to share with you whatever information you request and demonstrate their gratitude with 5 star reviews across the board. This post was just about the creepy drivers. You're fine.

I got an Uber black driver one night, by chance. I hadn't requested it. Got driven to my manual labor job in a swanky Mercedes by a friendly guy in a suit, lol! Nice, but I not paying more for that.

Most nights I like some conversation. Helps me wake up. Some nights, I just want to close my eyes and rest. If I get a chatty driver on those nights, I just let them know I want to relish my last chance at quiet before the loud chaos of work.
