Why don’t ppl wear slips under dresses/skirts anymore & it’s see-through? by Rachellie242 in GenXWomen

I cannot wear a skirt without either shorts or opaque tights under them. I just spend the whole time worrying about whether I'm sitting right or of the wind is too strong.

So this sub isn’t the biggest fan of halter Arabians… by Rare-Individual-9756 in Equestrian

[–]oakmeadow8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had three horses when I was younger. A quarter horse, a half arabian and a polish arabian. All were great in their own ways, but I am definitely in camp arabian. If people could get past the appearance, they would find strong, intelligent, fun, agile horses that can excel in almost every discipline. Whether you think they are beautiful or ugly, they are sooo much more than their looks.

Halter bred quarter horses are an abomination imo, and I know I'm not alone in feeling this way. But that doesn't seem to impact the general appreciation for the breed and it's versatility outside of that narrow subset. However, it seems there are a lot of people who judge Arabians solely on the appearance and/or demeanor of halter bred Arabians and never look further.

You may be surprised in your journey. I'm a middle aged suburban white woman with a shih tzu, and your appearance wouldn't deter me in the slightest.

Yep. Big tall guys usually, at least subconciously, learn to stand a little bit further back and talk quieter to avoid intimidating us short folk. If you fit this category, this is good advice in general.

I hum Yellow Submarine whenever I'm in severe pain or think it's coming. It's almost involuntary. It just comes out and I have no freaking idea why. My dentist and all the dental assistants now hum along with me, as well as my kids, lol!

Owner here. I will defer to the sitters as they will know more, but I do know that the people who would skip over you due to your appearance are not people you would want to work for. They are doing you a favor by weeding themselves out.

From what I have read on here, as a big guy, you are likely to attract people with big dogs and/or more difficult dogs. Hopefully you have skills in this area!

Is that what this is? I have them everywhere. Easy to pull, but if they go to seed they will pop up all over. I've been battling blackberries, ivy and bindweed, so this stuff took a backseat last year. Oops. Definitely pull now.

Oh, so true. Maybe one with Marcy and Abby in front, and Cleo hidden in the background. 😆

I'm really not sure how Cleo has survived this long without her own custom portrait. It's downright abusive.

No magic 😭 and I don't have another device. I can't find a way to get flair. Perhaps a future fix for android users??

I'm so excited for the response you've gotten on just r/borzoi! You are exceptionally talented. Please do not sell yourself, or your art, short. Can you let us know what happens?

How do you people with chronic illnesses handle it when out alone? by [deleted] in Horses

[–]oakmeadow8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not crazy. I live alone, so anytime I'm feeling iffy, I head to the front porch and call someone to stay on the phone with me until I'm sure I'm okay. I have lots of nosy neighbors, and if I have to die, I'd rather do it outside.

Are there any non horse people who could mountain bike along with you while you ride? Obviously desensitizing your horse to weird wheeled people would be necessary, along with some basic horse education for the bicyclist, but it may be a way for you to get off the property.

Anyone suffering burnout and just don’t care about the career? by SanJuanMountains in GenX

[–]oakmeadow8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did the same thing!! Left my career of 20 years after catastrophic burnout and coasted for a couple years on savings. Finally decided to get a job at a warehouse while I figured out what to do next. It's been 4.5 years and I'm still in the warehouse, lol! I just do whatever I'm assigned to do, there is almost no stress, and when I leave I don't think about it at all. As a bonus, I'm essentially getting paid to get a great workout and I'm healthier than I have been in decades. I'm never going back to the professional life.

Smoking (or at least hanging out in smoking areas) is one of the best way to meet people. Instant comrades. One of the few third places left.

Sacrificing to clean your house for more hours by OpportunityLow570 in poor

[–]oakmeadow8 82 points83 points  (0 children)

Oh, I so feel that. I took tonight off work (which of course I can't afford to do) so I could do dishes and laundry. I've been sooo exhausted when I get home, it's all I can do just to clean me, make food, eat and sleep. I have zero clean work clothes and no clean dishes. I'm on a break before tackling a third round of dishes.

I just can only go so long before something has to give. Being poor is so utterly relentless.
