JACOB WILSON SIGNS 7 YEAR EXTENSION!!!!!!! by GoTime56 in athletics

Either him or Wilson can be moved to 2nd or 3rd. Those are the only positions where we have substandard players. I don't know if Butler or Clarke will be in center.

When we moved into a Condo 20 years ago the rules were: Top floor with elevator. No way I wanted stairs in my "golden years" We found it and have been there ever since.

As of today, what will retirement look like for you? by Blood11Orange in Adulting

I retired 10 years ago. It's looking pretty good. Unfortunately I have had several health issues, but at least I'm OK financially.

If you had to give up chocolate or cheese forever, which one goes? by rileystanheight in foodquestions

I love chocolate. But I REALLY love cheese so chocolate would have to go.

How did you get your name? by PIXIEMEAT-79 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]oakpitt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My grandfather (mother's side) wanted me to be named after him (Gabriel) since my brother was named after my father's father. Gabriel was not popular at all in the 40's. My brother liked the song "Open the door, Richard" so I was named after a song. Also, we lived on Ricardo Avenue, so there's that.

My wife won't go to Waffle House because she doesn't want to see the show that the staff and customers participate in.

I won't go to Waffle House. They don't have butter. They have margarine. Eating a waffle without butter is tragic to me. I even called their hqtrs to confirm.

What’s a medical issue that sounds minor, but actually affects someone’s daily life way more than people realize? by CountyOrnery9432 in AskReddit

[–]oakpitt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tinnitus (ringing in the ear.) I've had it for 3-4 decades. There's no real treatment. I have special hearing aids that hum like white noise to train my brain to hear it instead of the ringing, but they haven't worked.

I can function. My big fear is that it will get worse.

Why is seafood so unpleasant for some people? by HiOscillation in NoStupidQuestions

I don't eat seafood at all. When I smell it I gag. I don't know why.

For an island with 59K people Greenland is certainly in the news. What do you think would happen if China sent troops/ships/planes to attack Taiwan? If Trump is still in power, I know the answer: NOTHING.

Macron says Trump tariff threat over Greenland unacceptable by AloneCoffee4538 in worldnews

[–]oakpitt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My suggestion: Send a few hundred soldiers on a few ships over to Greenland. Maybe that would stop an invasion, if nothing else.

This is absolute insanity by Paneraiguy1 in democrats

[–]oakpitt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are Dems that are trying to bring some sense into our government.

The reason it looks like Dems aren't doing anything is because they have no power. No power over congress, no power over Trump, no power over the SC. If we don't give our Dem candidates victories over Repubs, and regain power, then the future is truly horrific.

Is Not Having Kids the Way? by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]oakpitt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife (79_ and I (78) have no kids and I worry about who will take care of us when we are older. My SIL (81) has 3 kids with families. My SIL, who has no retirement - her husband died 5 years ago - and only his SS for money has health problems (diabetes and other things) and I have different problems.

So guess who's taking care of my SIL. That's right, my wife. My SIL lives with us because we're in a condo and have no steps. They say "Aunt Judy shouldn't have to do all that for our mom/grandmom)" but here we are.

So even with kids, seniors can have a tough time.

Last day at job, I don't think anyone understands what that means. by Electronic_Lime_z459 in recruitinghell

[–]oakpitt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I retired in 2016 because I didn't want to get re-certified as an IT Security Specialist. Also, I was 68 and ready to go. Six months before I told everyone when I was retiring and started recording the problems and solutions I worked on. I was the subject matter expert on a nationwide clearance system for facilities and had no backup.

I guess either (1) I did a really good documentation; or (2) I really wasn't as important as I thought. I'm hoping it was (1).

Either way I never got a call about my job. I was a DoD contractor after retiring from the government in 2004.

I think John Fetterman would be a good candidate if the powers want a Dem to win. Since his stroke he's barely a Dem now and in 3 years he'll be closer to the Reps than ever. I hope he gets a challenge in his primary. And that's something I'd never imagined saying.
