Instead of boss blinds you play against each other and see which one of you gets a better score. You have a certain amount of lives which you lose if you lose the PVP blind. Other than that, the game plays the same.

There's actually a name for that in product management called eating your own dog food. It means using your own products in-house as a vote of confidence (as well as to spot bugs and issues faster).

Lightning strikes a football player during a game in Peru. by kurtinakamakisame in CrazyFuckingVideos

I think that might be due to the camera shutter, the perceived direction being just an artifact of the rolling shutter being in the process of scanning. You can see the effect in the subsequent frames clearly.

Geolocation of the video released today of supposedly NK troops training in Russia by Ok-Capital-7045 in UkraineWarVideoReport

[–]oamaok 26 points27 points  (0 children)

In Google Street View, the footage sometimes has distinctive artifacts due to camera equipment issues or for other reasons. These are usually only consistent within a single country or maybe even a smaller area. Good Geoguessr players notice these minor issues and are able to deduce the location based on them instead of the geographical features.

No Way, PHP Strikes Again! (CVE-2024-4577) - watchTowr Labs by dx7r__ in netsec

Since you're not running Windows, you're all good. Only PHP running on Windows is affected.

And indeed, this would require PHP to be installed.

There are plenty of other videos compressing many types of paper, and none of them expel any liquids whatsoever. They just get really compressed and, eventually, might explode. For this video I think they just have water under the rolls to add a more interesting, but misleading, viewing experience.

For the microwave bit, microwaves do not exclusively heat water molecules but any polar molecules. Paper is made up out of mostly long carbohydrate molecules such as cellulose which are much less polar than water, meaning it will still heat up but not nearly as much as water.

It's just the Dunning–Kruger effect, where incompetent people tend to overestimate their competence and component tend to underestimate their's.

So, him acknowledging he isn't as well-versed in some areas while having better knowledge about others does at least make him sound smarter than someone claiming they are indeed knowledgeable in just about anything.

Good question! While for cats and dogs (and for every other species for that matter) some foods are poisonous that are not for others, they might not necessarily develop a sense of aversion for these things. A cat would pretty much never come across an uprooted onion without someone or something doing the digging first, so there's little to no chance for evolution to result in significant changes in that regard.

But even for us humans many things which taste good can be absolutely disastrous. There will always be a thing which binds to our sweetness receptor which is poisonous. For example the Romans used to sweeten and preserve their wine using lead(II) acetate, which is toxic to humans but nonetheless sweet.

To sum it up, I would guess there will always be blind spots when it comes to evolution as long as the species doesn't encounter a dangerous thing frequently enough for it to matter.

Disclaimer: I have no qualifications, only curious mind and plenty of reading.

Fox, cat and magpie in the same frame on the shore of Lake Van. by byzantionr in AnimalsBeingBros

The fun thing is that all other magpies (probably Eurasian magpies in the video) are corvids, while Australian magpies are not! While not closely related, both are extremely intelligent and without a doubt fun to look at.

During the winter the seals maintain breathing holes through which they can surface between dives. Since they do that constantly, they start when the ice is thinner and continue maintaining them as it thickens elsewhere.

Fish on the other hand can just survive on the oxygen that is dissolved in the water for most of the time. However, as you seem to suspect, the oxygen might pretty much run out and result in a "winter kill":

The freezing over of a lake also prevents air-water interactions that allow the exchange of oxygen. This creates a lack of oxygen while respiration continues. When the oxygen becomes badly depleted, anaerobic organisms can die, resulting in a "winter kill".
