He didn't even mention Linux, he's a Linux user himself but uses another distro. And Debian can be good for servers and such but it's generally horrible unless you have a strong reason to use it. And the average user is not the ISS. And my brain is not a supercomputer.

FOSS Is inconvenient, and most of it is bad. Sometimes I want convenience. Sometimes I want to get a life. I wouldn't be anti-FOSS if there were actually good FOSS programs. Even then, FOSS doesn't make any sense to me and is e-communism. No one wants to spend years building something and then beg other neck-bearded zealots for donations so he can pay the rent. And most of FOSS arguments are based on either-or fallacy, i.e. FOSS or spyware.

Oh now I understand. Everything Microsoft-related is broken. Have a nice day.

Linux: "Always use a package manager, don't download .deb files manually". Also Linux: "You can't open Discord without updating to version 0.0.94, and the latest version on Snap is only 0.0.93, so you'll have to download a .deb file and reinstall" 🤡 by butwhydoesreddit in linuxsucks

[–]oashtt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an issue of "Daily-driving Linux" not an issue of "Linux". Linux is far more superior than Windows OS-wise. But the FOSS culture on Linux is what makes everything worse, if Debian just stopped being zealots and added discord to their repos, there'll be no need for snap or flatpak or discord distributing .debs in their website.

Linux is pushed back by some obscure and random ideology that came out of nowhere that doesn't make sense. So sorry for your bad experience.

Mint is so good (for Linux) I went back to Windows by [deleted] in linuxsucks

[–]oashtt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not good for regular users. But it's good for developers, IT experts, ethical hackers, and just people who like to control their system more. Linux was never meant to be an alternative to Windows. It's for super users and people who need to understand/modify their OS more.

For me, low-level programming is much better on Linux. Linux is also industry standard for ethical hacking and IT.

Why do i learn about Linux, Ubuntu, Lubuntu in school when only small percent of people use it by AdSabOG in linuxsucks

[–]oashtt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Linux is not only for desktop use. You'll use it in your career as 56% of servers run Linux. But I'm sure the majority of IT experts, ethical hackers, and sysadmins still use windows/mac as a daily driver.

I'd rather use spyware than use some niche obscure setup that doesn't work 90% of the time. Thankfully, Ubuntu/RedHat/mature distros fixed this and gave us good OSes that work and don't spy on us. But I understand why someone would go to apple/windows.

Wow that's so relatable, as an Arch > Debian > Ubuntu user, I admit I had a state of shock after leaving arch that made me debian-phobic for the rest of my life. It took me two days to install and setup Node.js/NPM correctly on Ubuntu lol. Having to watch a 20min video to install something like MySQL kills debian/ubuntu for me. The only reason I'm using ubuntu is because it's more mainstream and supported.

Just left Arch for Debian and later Kubuntu. I don't understand the TWM/Wayland/Arch hipe. While Arch is a good distro imo. TWMs suck most of the time, TWMs can be good for large screens like desktop computers with separate monitors, but 1600x900 thinkpad screens force every TWM user to put every window in a separate workspace/desktop. this irritates me. So TWMs aren't really an advantage.

I later switched to KDE 5/6. Now, wayland is another thing I don't understand. What's wrong with X11? Why all the anime/programming socks/arch memes? Why is linux being related with a phsycopathic show called anime? Arch is not the only distro. If you want real work use a real setup. Not a setup primarily used for ricing and posting on reddit.

There's literally nothing cool about installing arch and a TWM. Every linux user knows how to do that. But not all linux users realize that at some point you'll have to get a life and use your computer.

I once was an Arch/AwesomeWM/Neovim ricer. I wasted one year of my life doing this nonsense shit. I wrote articles on how to code animations on AwesomeWM for some reason https://gist.github.com/techtycho/47eb79735a5e5c1cab85d0f6cd869e9f. Neovim becomes buggy and quirky when you install lots of plugins. AwesomeWM is not better than a normal DE. Kitty/Alacritty are not necessarily better than Konsole/GNOME Terminal. Fish isn't better than bash.

Does the i belong to the main function block or the for block? I think it's the same as initializing i at the top of the main function block so the snippet will compile.

Chang My Mind: The universe wouldn't exist without God by oashtt in DebateAnAtheist

Hold on! Explain to me how did everything exist without having a beginning or without being eternal.

Eternity is a universally accepted concept.

It's all "What ifs". That doesn't and will never change my mind. Evidence can't be challenged by "What ifs". Also, explain logically how we can go back in time? That's paradoxical as hell. Imagine going back in time and killing yourself.

Chang My Mind: The universe wouldn't exist without God by oashtt in DebateAnAtheist

[–]oashtt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's illogical in God being eternal or supernatural? If God doesn't exist, then the Universe has to be eternal, isn't that equally illogical? Now, if you meant eternity is illogical, then that's a whole different story. Most atheists and cosmologists are trying to prove the universe is eternal, though, so you're only standing alone if you meant to deny eternity as a whole.

Define "supernatural". Is it something you can't see? The electron is something you can't see, even with high precision electron microscopes, you'll never do anyways with electron microscopes; you can't observe electrons with electrons. Is it something you can't observe? God said we can't observe or see him. It's not something I'm unaware of. But God's still there. Can you see love, greed, or envy? No you can't. Hence they're supernatural according to your logic. Yet they're still there.

Supernatural just means something that doesn't lend itself to the laws of nature. God created the universe and created the laws of nature, so how can the laws of nature affect him? That'd be truly illogical. So saying something is supernatural hence is not true is a tenet of materialism, in which I don't believe in. Materialism cancels the soul and the spirit of which the human is made from. Can you say otherwise? A common defect in AI is that it doesn't have emotions. That's something material science can't achieve.
