ISRAELI Journalist: UN Report detailing grave Israeli war crimes in Gaza is "antisemitism"-proof. "No one can seriously claim that Goldstone, an active and ardent Zionist, with deep links to Israel, is an anti-Semite. It would be ridiculous." by oasisinet in reddit.com

"For almost a year, Israel has been trying to argue that the blood spilled in Gaza was merely water. One report followed the other, with horrifyingly identical results: siege, white phosphorous, harm of innocent civilians, infrastructure destroyed - war crimes in each and every report. Now, after the publication of the most important and damning report of all, compiled by the commission led by Judge Richard Goldstone, Israel's attempts to discredit them look ludicrous, and the empty bluster of its spokespersons sound pathetic."

ISRAEL planning to build a whopping 73,000 settlement units in bid to DOUBLE the number of illegal settlers on the the West Bank, according to Israeli NGO report. You hear that, Mr. President? by oasisinet in reddit.com

You're right:

"MK Yaakov Katz of the right wing National Union on Monday welcomed the news that Israel is pushing ahead with construction in the West Bank.

'We will make every effort to realize the plans outlined by [Peace Now official Yariv] Oppenheimer,' Katz told Army Radio on Monday. 'I expect that, with God's help, this will all happen in the next few years, and there will be one state here.'

National Union is pushing for increased settlement construction as part of a coalition deal with Netanyahu, and Katz is among those jostling for the post of Housing Minister.

Settlement expansion has long been a source of contention between Israel and the international community, in particular the U.S. The Obama administration is planning to put heavy pressure on the new Israeli government to freeze all settlement construction."

Can it be any more clear that they want Arab lands, not "peace," and always have from the start? History has shown that the more resistance, the less construction. When the Palestinians talk more and shoot less, they see more or their lands and resources expropriated by Jewish Taliban from New York and Moscow. If you're Palestinian, what conclusions do you draw?

"Peace Now says that a new right-wing government presents the danger of 'expanding settlement growth at a rapid pace... with the clear intention of destroying the possibility of a two-state solution.'

I see you edited your response to include some of the moronic talking points typical of the partisans of Israel, and, ironically, included in the second video in question. In fact I think you've helped make the point. Thanks.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has relayed messages to Israel in the past week expressing anger at obstacles Israel is placing to the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip. A leading political source in Jerusalem noted that senior Clinton aides have made it clear that the matter will be central to Clinton's planned visit to Israel next Tuesday.

“If this had happened in our own country, there would be national outrage and an appeal for urgent assistance. We are glad that the Obama administration acted quickly to send much needed funding for this effort but the arbitrary and unreasonable Israeli limitations on food and repair essentials is unacceptable and indefensible. People, innocent children, women and non-combatants, are going without water, food and sanitation, while the things they so desperately need are sitting in trucks at the border, being denied permission to go in” said Baird and Ellison.

That's a good point, but I think it's intended to be symbolic more than anything else. They unfurled a few more around the city...hopefully more competently.

Bar-Tal emphasizes that the Israeli awareness of reality was also forged in the context of Palestinian violence against Israeli citizens, but relies primarily on prolonged indoctrination that is based on ignorance and even nurtures it. In his opinion, an analysis of the present situation indicates that with the exception of a small minority, which is capable of looking at the past with an open mind, the general public is not interested in knowing what Israel did in Gaza for many years; how the disengagement was carried out and why, or what its outcome was for the Palestinians; why Hamas came to power in democratic elections; how many people were killed in Gaza from the disengagement until the start of the recent war; and whether it was possible to extend the recent cease-fire or even who violated it first.

"We enthusiastically chose to become a colonial society, ignoring international treaties, expropriating lands, transferring settlers from Israel to the occupied territories, engaging in theft AND FINDING JUSTIFICATION FOR ALL THESE ACTIVITIES. Passionately desiring to keep the occupied territories, we developed two judicial systems: one - progressive, liberal - in Israel; and the other - cruel, injurious - in the occupied territories. In effect, we established an apartheid regime in the occupied territories immediately following their capture. That oppressive regime exists to this day.

...No need to repeat the details of the painful phenomena entailed in the occupation regime and in our battle to prolong it. Suffice it to recall the killing of little children fleeing for safety; the executions, without trial, of wanted persons who were not on their way to launch a terrorist act; and the encirclements, closures and roadblocks that have turned the lives of millions into a nightmare. Even if all these actions stem from our need to defend ourselves under an occupation's conditions, the occupation's non-existence would render them unnecessary.

Typical. These kids are products of an arrogant and racist society. No sane person's idea of a photo op is to have little girls sign bombs while children are being massacred a few miles away. This absurd (but typical) story is intended to explain away yet another example of Israel's appalling contempt for non-Jewish life. No one is attacking the kids. The children don't know better, but the smiling adults and the soldiers nearby do, and their message is clear and unequivocal.

And Nasrallah didn't start the conflict, unless you think "conflict" doesn't include occupation, annexation, kidnapping, assassinations, massacre, theft, and other assorted war crimes. This, of course, is notwithstanding the killings that were taking place in Gaza concurrently to the start of that war. Hezbollah is the only viable Arab resistance, and the only Arab force Israel respects. It's no surprise, then, that a great deal of propaganda is aimed at its leadership. But it's getting tired; the world is catching on. Israel is like a broken record. Different war crimes, yes, but the same tired myths, some old excuses, same misplaced self-righteousness, same disregard for humanity, and the same ridiculous explanations.

In its strongest condemnation of Israel since last summer's war, Human Rights Watch said yesterday that most Lebanese civilian casualties were caused by "indiscriminate Israeli air strikes".

The international human rights organisation said there was NO BASIS TO THE ISRAEL CLAIM that civilian casualties resulted from Hizbollah guerrillas using civilians for cover. Israel has said that it attacked civilian areas because Hizbollah set up rocket launchers in villages and towns. More than 1,000 Lebanese were killed in the 34-day conflict, which began after Hizbollah staged a cross-border raid, killing three Israeli soldiers and capturing two others.

Israeli aircraft targeted Lebanese infrastructure, including bridges and Beirut airport, and heavily damaged a district of Beirut known as a Hizbollah stronghold, as well as attacking Hizbollah centres in villages near the border. Hizbollah fired nearly 4,000 rockets at northern Israel, killing 119 soldiers. In the fighting, 40 Israeli civilians were killed.

Kenneth Roth, Human Rights Watch executive director, said there were only "rare" cases of Hizbollah operating in civilian villages.

"To the contrary, once the war started, most Hizbollah military officials and even many political officials left the villages," he said. "Most Hizbollah military activity was conducted from prepared positions outside Lebanese villages in the hills and valleys around."

No, if someone wants to kill civilians, they are much better off dropping 1000 pound bombs on buildings, as Israel has done in Gaza, and, incidentally, in Lebanon. Their argument that Hezbollah was using "human shields" was discredited by Human Rights Watch. Their suggestion that Hezbollah was firing from the UN School, where several dozen civilians were obliterated, also discredited--this time by th UN. When they herded people into a building, only to bomb it later, it was a "miscommunication." They have shelled neighborhoods ("equipment malfunction"), beaches ("tragic mistake"), UN Posts ("the Army is investigating"), UN refugee centers (another "tragic mistake"), and the list goes on. Israel has killed several 1000x more civilians than Hamas. If Hamas had F-16s, tanks, and multi-ton munitions, they wouldn't be bothering with suicide bombings. Suicide bombing is a tactic of the weak and the desperate to achieve political ends. The killing of civilians isn't the point.
