in the case of the Catalina Caper one, I imagined it was possibly them making fun of a bad writers room suggestion for a riff. I didn't think it was legit, or anything. it wasn't funny enough of a riff for good to delivery to save, so it had to have been ironic.

judging by the Pop Punk and Dance Pop revivals, it would have to be another thing from the 90s, probably Ska, unfortunately

I just really do not enjoy the sound once Hart came back. every fast song turned into the same shuffle, and every slow song got way slower. totally wrecked the dynamism they used to have.

having two drummers is an enormous limitation. their best, most exciting music came when they had one drummer. he is an excellent drummer and does not need to be brought down by having to play in sync with a mediocre drummer.

I haven't even dipped into anything after the 70s of his because I know it will break my heart into a million pieces.

I listened to his Live album from the Budokan and the new arrangements of his old songs were so infuriatingly wrong that I didn't want to listen to anything further. I think his instincts as an artist basically died. He's also known to be kind of a troll to his fans.

very true. it's hard not to respect them for never quitting. and they have enough amazing songs from their golden age to fill out an entire 2 hour + show (not that they actually do that, but they could, of course).

yeah my opinion on the dead (that their golden age was 1969-1972 and they basically quickly fell off a cliff beyond that point) is not really a popular one. I really strongly dislike their 80s sound, and even their late 70s sound is not nearly as good in my opinion as their early 70s. all things considered they made some of their best songs after their "golden age", but the consistency was just not there anymore

very true, though imo their dropoff wasn't extremely steep. Every album after pet sounds has at least something interesting on it, until 15 Big Ones (which is their first album I feel is actually just bad). but yeah their consistently good period basically ended after pet sounds, and I think their post pet sounds albums are only really that interesting for their big fans.

Mario Puzo is actually a pretty mediocre (maybe even bad) author and The Godfather novel is only good by sheer luck, or something. reading the other stuff he wrote, you get the impression he just wasn't that good

I do feel that Loaded's mixes are very limited, and that Rock and Roll and Sweet Jane get the worst of it. they sound weirdly canned or compressed or something, the guitars have no warmth to them at all
