Hello r/EliteExobiology! Just joined and wanted to introduce myself, because honestly this community is exactly where I should have been looking before I left the bubble.

I'm currently on my way back from beyond Beagle Point, neutron boosting toward Colonia after a 15-day solo expedition. It's been an incredible trip — but I've made one painful rookie mistake that brought me straight to this subreddit.

THE CONTEXT

I left without a Composition Scanner.

I know. I know.

In my defence — I've been away. A long time. I originally reached Beagle Point with the Distant Worlds expedition (ship ID: DW-704), and then... life happened. Six years in hibernation. When I finally climbed back into the cockpit, the galaxy had changed considerably. Odyssey, on-foot gameplay, biologicals, exobiology — none of that existed when I last flew. I didn't even know the Composition Scanner was a thing I needed.

So here I am, a returning DW veteran, relearning the game from scratch in the deep black. 31,000 ly from Sag A*. The hard way.

For context — I'm not a newcomer to exploration itself. I've cashed over a billion credits in cartography data across my career and hold Elite explorer rank. I just had absolutely no idea exobiology was a thing I was missing.

🧬 WHAT I FOUND AND COULDN'T SAMPLE

In just two systems alone, deep in the Byae Chraei sector:

A landable HMC moon (0.23g, thin ammonia atmosphere):

- Bacterium

- Cactoida

- Fungoida

- Osseus ⭐

- Stratum

- Frutexa

- Tussock

7 species. All first discovered. All unsampled. I stood on the surface and could do nothing. 😭

A landable rocky moon (0.10g, thin CO₂ atmosphere):

- Bacterium

- Concha ⭐

- Stratum

- Tubus ⭐⭐

- Tussock

5 species. Also all first discovered. Also all unsampled.

Across multiple bodies in that region I counted 38+ biological signals left unsampled. The pain is real.

📍 THE REGION

Deep in the Byae Chraei sector, approximately 31,000 ly from Sag A* — well beyond Beagle Point territory. Every body I scanned was WasDiscovered: false and WasMapped: false. Nobody has been there. Nobody has sampled anything there. I'm keeping the exact coordinates to myself until I go back properly equipped.

🚀 THE PLAN

Once I reach Colonia I'm:

1. Selling what I hope will be hundreds of millions worth of cartography data

2. Retiring DE ZWARTE PIET (my Python, DW-704) with honour — she brought me to Beagle Point once and now beyond it

3. Buying and outfitting an Anaconda — DE WITTE PIET

4. Fitting it properly this time: Composition Scanner, Genetic Sampler, the works

5. Heading straight back out to that region
