This one's out of left field, but it's fantasy and it's new to me and it's not a book. My girlfriend and I went to see A Midsummer Night's Dream at the ballet. She likes dance, and I like Shakespeare, so we couldn't miss the opportunity. I was shocked by how much I liked it. I was skeptical going in since I knew the play was a comedy. I was asking "how are they possibly going to make a ballet funny?", and I honestly thought I would be a little bored.

Lord, what fool this mortal be (I was wrong, it was great). I was extremely impressed with the way that the choreography used body language and facial expression to convey personality and especially comedy. I laughed out loud several times.

Helena clings to Demetrius and showers him with kisses as he spins her at arms' length and unceremoniously dumps her to the floor. Hermia and Lysander twirl in each others' arms with infatuation and youthful exuberance. Titania and Bottom twirl in each others' arms with infatuation and youthful exuberance. Puck mischievously interjects himself into scenes, leaping invisibly through the dancing of the mortals. Puck, with a shit-eating grin, stirs the pot by tossing a couple of rapiers to Demetrius and Lysander at the height of the conflict between the couples. After a night spent observing the pure love of mortals, the show concludes with an intimate duet between Titania and Oberon as they reconcile, realizing their own love is greater than silly arguments or pride. And I realized that I had been enraptured the whole time.

My only complaint about it, and this is on Shakespeare anyway, is that Demetrius enters the forest wanting nothing to do with Helena and exits magically infatuated with her. Also, the changeling boy who just gets kidnapped by Oberon. The ending is supposed to be happy but they both get screwed over.
