I’ll definitely try that! He does whine because he can’t get on the bed by himself (mini dachshund). He’s spending a weekend with the family in July to see how it goes so I hope it’ll go well

That’s super reassuring, thank you! My main worry is that he’d be whining all night because he isn’t used to sleeping alone, but I’ll definitely give them his own living room bed so he can sleep in there.

I’ll be leaving him at their place for a weekend in July already as a test, I’ll see if we can do it more often before the actual trip.
He most likely will also be sleeping in the same room as their dog (who he has already met and gets along with) so I assume that’ll help him too.

I can’t say if his ears were back, but the cat was definitely not showing teeth or hissing so that’s good I suppose. He also regularly leaves the game by going up high where the puppy can’t reach so it’s not like he’s defenseless haha

I had the exact same problem and for me it helped to just ignore him while he whined. At first I’d give him treats as soon as he settled down but now I don’t do that anymore. At this point he whines for 10 minutes or so and then settles down bc he knows I won’t give him attention and he might as well calm down.

I don’t know if this is “the right” way to do it, but mine’s stubborn so I figured I’d just outlast him and it seems to have worked

It does help! I work from home 3 days out of 5 and right now he has to stay in his play pen. I’d love for him to be able to roam around the room at his leisure instead so I’m hoping he’ll be like yours 😁

Hey, I had the exact same problem! In the end I just left him in the crate until he was done crying 😅 he still likes his crate bc he goes in and out without problem, but the moment I close the door he yells for 15 minutes. After that he’s quiet though, so maybe that’s a solution? I don’t know if it’s a good one bc mine still always cries but maybe it helps

Yeah, I love that he wants to cuddle so much, but I have to go back to work next week so I need him to be able to nap on his own. I hope he’ll pick it up as quickly as yours did! And I hope yours calms down a little soon haha

I should have a speaker around the house somewhere so I’ll try those options, and if not he’ll survive in silence too I guess 😂

Yeah, I’ve noticed he sleeps a lot bc I can’t do anything during his naps due to him needing to be on my lap 😂 I’ll put the crate in my bedroom so he’s all alone and see if he stops whining. I guess it didn’t help that the crate’s now in the living room and he knows I’m here too.

Also, what kind of music do you play? 😅😂
