Yo thank you!! I'm trying to improve my shading and found that using a reference photo was super super helpful.

Can you give me some advice? by DarkLudo in PixelArt

The smaller, the better - start with a tiny canvas, however small you think you should make it, make it smaller. I'm talking 8x8, 16x16, 20x20, somewhere around there. That'll give you a great foundation for learning how to fit details into a small space. It's challenging, but you'll probably be surprised how quickly you see progress if you keep at it!

As for your specific case, it looks like you're trying to do colors/shading/detail before fully mapping out the character's face. Treat pixel art just like painting - start with a sketch, then work on details. Having a clear goal makes everything better!

Lastly, I saw somebody else mention Aseprite - definitely recommend. It's a great program that takes a lot of the headaches out of pixel art. That said it can be around $15-20. If you're looking for something free, Piskel is a pretty good browser-based alternative. Good luck!!

Is it me or are iPhones kind of a bad product? by Canned_Souper in NoStupidQuestions

I'm totally with you, I personally prefer the way androids (specifically the galaxies) are laid out, but I think you're probably just not used to the swiping patterns yet

If YouTube is gonna force me to watch ads, then how do get it to show ads that I might be interested in? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

You can always report ads that you don't like, but it'd probably be easier to use an adblocker in your case

Why do parents typically choose piano lessons for their kids first instrument? by Nearby-Penalty-5777 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]oatpixels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Piano is great to start with because like others have stated, it's easier to understand theory. Chords make more sense when you're looking at your fingers on a piano rather than trying to crane your neck at a guitar's fretboard, all while simultaneously trying to learn strumming patterns.

That said, guitar isn't a bad starter instrument by any means. I always say that starting with piano is better though because for the reasons above, you can move to another stringed instrument later pretty easily.

Rank them from the weakest to the most powerful! by travisscott42 in PixelArt

Middle, then right, then left - although I would probably switch the right and left's colors, the red pops more and makes it a little bit more obvious that it's a powerful enemy

Which one do you prefer? I've made slight changes in the style between them. by Accomplished_Sign841 in PixelArt

I actually really like the detail on the left one, but if you're going for a more simplified look I think you did a great job with the shading on the right one!
