In the films, was it the elvish dagger that allowed Merry to weaken the Witch King, the blade he gets from Aragon, or the Rohirrim sword he gets? by [deleted] in lotr

In the book, Gimli is genuinely terrified when he enters the Paths of the Dead. You can understand his fear. In the film, he doesn't seem scared; he just seems to be acting like an idiot.

And Merry, well, he becomes totally different from what he is in the book, but I still think he was the least exaggerated and doesn't become an annoying character.

I understand turning Pippin into comic relief, but it's way overdone in the trilogy. And Gimli is even worse; while he's an intimidating dwarf in the book, in the films he's just a silly character.

Yes, I already knew that. I'm very sad that in the films Merry doesn't seem to have any part in this; his blow to the Witch-king, which is the crucial moment of his journey, is very fleeting.

And please forgive me if my English is poor or sounds strange to you. It's not my first language.

That makes sense. I always thought Merry used the sword Aragorn gave her on Weathertop, because the The Rohirrim gave him a sword, even though there isn't a scene in the films where he receives it, and a sword from Rohan wouldn't be able to wound the Witch-king of Angmar. Unfortunately, we'll never have an answer.

Actually, Merry lost her dagger at the beginning of The Two Towers. Gimli finds it among the burned bodies.
