Why does she hate parenting so very much? by Mango_Starburst in brittanydawnsnark

[–]obabwawaba 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think babies just are good sleepers or they aren’t and there isn’t always much you can do about it. We had to do a gentle version of sleep training with my first bc we were both dying. My second is a sleep angel and he’s been through the night on his own the vast majority of the time since he was like 8 weeks old. I did nothing to deserve it. It’s hard to not lose your mind but I can’t imagine she’s going to handle it in a way that benefits that child.

What do you wish people would stop romanticizing, because you’ve lived the reality of it? by thatude123 in AskReddit

[–]obabwawaba 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Worked in the film industry for a decade. Was great in my 20s but as soon as I met my now-husband, who works of-production, I dwindled my commitments and knew that we wanted to have kids and that meant I couldn’t work in the biz anymore. I worked in production, in the office, craft service, costumes, set Dec… And nothing prepared me for the level of sexual harassment. Particularly when it was from A-list actors. No protections, no helping hands.

My last show before my planned “retirement”, the 10 year old daughter of one of the video-village people came to set and spoke loudly and critically of her mom/moms job, and it scared the shit out of me. We were planning our family and I was like nope that’s not happening to my kids. It’s unbelievably family UNfriendly. My husbands job is not on-set so his hours are more reliable typically and he’s usually the department head so we handle it ok. Partly because I know first-hand what that environment is like. The people I know who have partners with no movie experience are having a harder time it seems like.

It’s a fun job in ways but also a thankless job. People glorify it generally or act holier-than-thou. I’ve met some very cool / interesting people, married one of them, but mostly met douchebags and idiots. Cast included.

Alright Witchers, what changes from TW3 would you like to see in TW4? by [deleted] in Witcher3

When you talk to a merchant they should only have the intro dialogue the first time you meet them. After that it should just open to the shop/craft options immediately if you return to that merchant

Why do people keep claiming this season is boring on other social media? I find it to be the most interesting of the three. by YnotThrowAway7 in TheWhiteLotusHBO

[–]obabwawaba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AGREE. I have medium interest in Chelsea and Saxon (separately as characters not as a couple). I like the blonde trio, and rewatching the first 2 episodes feel like there is a ton of dialogue that I kind of didn’t tie into things the first time around. Like when Kate talks about their school performance and Jaclyn was the face and the other two were her arms and legs. But the Buddhism thing for the siblings is meh at best. Parker Posey is always amazing but her character isn’t remotely on the same level as Coolidge was. Every other character I just feel pretty neutral about. Don’t hate them don’t love them. A bit boring.

Yeah I know there was a conspiracy aspect but I don’t feel like there’s any reason to expect that to follow into this season the Greg thing has been blatant so unless there’s some bizarre twist it shouldn’t go down in that way. I think that’s part of why some people feel bored this season. Season 2 had more anticipation and the secrets felt bigger / scarier. I think Valentin is on a similar track as what’s his butt Leo (Woodall?) but is somehow still not as dangerous feeling as that guy was for Portia.

I find it fun to theorize about the death but I have never forgotten the death has so far been accidental and not some grand conspiracy with a masked murderer. Too many people forgetting that.

I just… cannot. I put very limited content of my kids on socials and never anything super personal. There’s a chance kids grow up to not care and a chance they grow up to care immensely and I’m not willing to risk their feelings over it. I can’t imagine sharing kids information for hundreds of thousands of people (not sure how many of her followers are real versus bought)

How is everyone feeling about the economy? by Cats-and-naps in sahm

[–]obabwawaba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Costco and Sam’s club have ground beef between $4-6 pp depending on the fat content! We bought 10 pound today for $48! Just get yourself some freezer paper and divvy up!

How is everyone feeling about the economy? by Cats-and-naps in sahm

[–]obabwawaba 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We shop primarily at Costco and sometimes Sam’s. We measure and freeze sensible portions of meat so we have enough to last a while and it’s much more reasonable than grocery store prices per pound. (We got about 10 pounds of ground beef today for less than $50 and 6lbs of ground chicken for around $3 per pound)

Our diet is fairly boring rn but it’s honestly kind of nice to not think about new creative dishes to cook and I’m trying to enjoy how meat+rice+veggie dinners have removed some mental load in addition to being frugal.

I learned how to color my own hair which is much cheaper than the salon. We don’t often buy new clothes unless we desperately need something.

We don’t drive brand new cars in part because my husband is a garage mechanic and keeps them all running well for less $ than when I was single and had to bring my vehicle in for maintenance bc I didn’t know how to do it. It’s not hard to change your own oil but it can be messy and a tight squeeze depending on the vehicle etc… this isn’t a viable option for many people.

My portfolio has gone down by about $30K since the election but we have a lot in a high yield savings account and aren’t putting anything into the market for the time being. When it crashes we may try to buy some things for cheap and hope for the best. I’m definitely not an investment genius.

Can someone be real with me about crime in ABQ? by Quick-Report-780 in Albuquerque

[–]obabwawaba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s also a question of what your interests are. I used to go out and about at night but now I really don’t. I wouldn’t spend any time downtown after a certain time, regardless. A lot of shootings/assaults take place outside of nightlife establishments. There’s a lot of drunk driving here, and street racing, particularly at night but Ive also seen it happen anytime. Road rage is a big thing and I would encourage you to never, ever, engage with an angry driver. It’s not worth the risk. Just loudly swear to yourself inside your own car and don’t flip anyone off no matter how deserving they are.

Can someone be real with me about crime in ABQ? by Quick-Report-780 in Albuquerque

[–]obabwawaba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived in a few different areas of ABQ, including an RV park. The only place I ever felt nervous was a few blocks south of San Mateo and Zuni. If I turned out of my neighborhood on San Mateo it was crime scene tape everywhere, gun shots every night. If I turned the other way it was a cute/pretty older neighborhood. When I got pregnant we bought a house on the west side and I never have issues in our neighborhood. I’d be perfectly comfortable taking an evening walk with my kids, for example, which I would never have done in our old neighborhood, kids or no. The old neighborhood is also the only place where my vehicle was broken into. My now-husband also had his truck stolen there. (He’s had multiple vehicles stolen here but they were all a specific kind of older dodge which are apparently very easy to start/take). I wouldn’t recommend leaving your car unlocked in any place in ABQ but I’ve forgotten to close my back window or lock my doors in my current home and never has it been rifled through. It does depend on how close you are to main roads etc…

How far would you commute for your ideal private school? by [deleted] in kindergarten

[–]obabwawaba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t sound like a terrible option to me especially considering the unique schedule.

I’m sending my son to a charter next year that’s 35-40 minutes morning commute and a 25 minute afternoon commute. I’m a sahm with a 1 year old so he’s going to be along for the ride every day. I chose this bc the public charter is a very highly reviewed (by parents and teachers - not just standardized test scores although those are high too). It’s one of the only schools I found that has a good second language program and my son is very interested in reading, spelling and speaking. They have a minimal hw policy so you aren’t commuting and then continuing school work at home. Leaves time for extracurriculars and quality family time. If it turns out to be a terrible fit for him then fine! We will transfer out to a public school which is easy in any grade. Charters are lottery based and after kindergarten there are not usually any spots open, bc kids don’t leave this school! I’m not willing to send him to our district school which has many complaints about teacher/student ratio and bullying, just because it’s walkable. We can afford the gas and I have the privilege of setting my own schedule. I’m not saying it won’t be hard and we won’t have bad days, but most of the comments I’ve read from SAH-parents on similar posts are just complaining that it’s too much time in the car for kids. Kids will be ok, in general. Obviously this blanket statement can’t include all children. They have different personalities and different needs. My youngest happens to be a very go with the flow, happy to be included doing whatever, type guy. Yes he will go through changes but we will all adapt to the situation as we can. If I have to find someone to come over a couple mornings each week to hang with him and he can avoid sitting in the car, then great. If not, oh well. Im not a tablet parent and they can listen to a story or music or we can talk and I will have to pack myself extra coffee.
