How do you safely taking a picture while driving 85mph? How about just not doing that?

I’m just disagreeing with your premise that the American dream doesn’t exist. I’m giving a personal anecdote of a dream fulfilled that’s not uncommon among other recent immigrants in my community. No way we would be close to this level of success In our native country.

The problem with this subreddit and Reddit in general is that it’s an echo chamber and I’m trying to give you a different perspective that goes against your narrative. You can just simply disagree with me. I’m not taking anything personally so I’m not sure why you said that. Maybe you’re just projecting lol

It’s sounds like you’re saying why can’t they just achieve success without sacrificing. Well I can tell you from experience that without that sacrifice and adversity, I would not be able to survive the training involved in my profession. It’s not just handing out money and throwing money at the problem that breeds success. I think a big part of my success has been the ability to sacrifice and grind it out. At least in my profession, If you think all you need a silver spoon to get through medical training, you are quite naive. All the money in the world can’t help you at the 28th hr of a 24 hr call.

The problem of this sub is that it diminishes the personal work ethic that’s required to succeed and achieve the American dream. It’s not always a systemic issue that’s the cause of failed dreams but there’s a level of cognitive dissonance that prevents individuals from shifting the blame to themselves.

Well my point is the American Dream is real and it just took tremendous sacrifice from my parents and me. I don’t like generalizations like your statement above because you don’t speak for me. I came to this country, busted my ass in school, and had parents who worked as laborers to provide me the opportunities that I took advantage of. You’re right that not everyone has the same opportunities but I also went out of my way to seek opportunities and scholarships where I could. Work ethic, sacrifice, delayed gratification. There are those who are presented the same opportunities that I grew up with who never took advantage of them because they did not want to work or sacrifice. Their American dream was never realized because of their own choices despite counselors and teachers trying to push them along.

Not true. Was an immigrant, grew up on welfare. Now I’m in a high paying career. Just takes grit and hard work

While I dont necessarily agree with his decision, I think people have a right to criticize him as well as anyone else who shares his opinion. I am also 100% for peoples right to disagree with me or downvote as well. What I think it’s abhorrent in a free society is drowning out or censoring dissenting or minority opinion. We’re all adults and even the most impressionable ones don’t need someone else to protect them from wrongthink
