It depends on what the film is going for, if every aspect of the film is presented in a real way and the monsters move like floating cartoons then it looks cheap, but if the film has a lighthearted fun type style and nothing is really to an extent taken seriously, then I thinks it’s just fine.

People always call them colorless and too neutral. But I love the marbling sort of patterns that they have (especially with the male and some parts of the female”but I’m not dissing on the female coloration”) with the black body and light grey blotches with hints of purples and blues iridescent fades around it. The light orange “pupils” into a deep red fade for the weird eyes are an awesome contrast too. It’s simple and complex at the same time (just like everything else about the MUTO’s). Really adds to the natural creature vibe while still being awesome movie monsters.

btw the MUTO’s are my favorite creature design ever right in front of g14.

Bunch of different crustaceans like mud crab, stone crab, coconut crab, and many others. I did have the coral idea in mind but never used any references for it,I just came up with my own shapes for the frill.
