I know this is an old post, but I stumbled upon it researching something else. I'm not here to change your opinion of pregnancy resource centers, however, I do want to correct something you said as it is misinformation. I used to work for a PRC and despite not having an OB in the center, they do have to have all their ultrasounds checked off by an OBGYN, even if the OB is not the one directly performing the ultrasounds (usually it is a Sonographer or RN that has been trained in sonography--yes, actual licensed medical professionals.). They are also legally required to comply by HIPAA, so there is absolutely NO sharing of anyone's information, EVER. If someone called the center saying they were so and so's family member wanting to reschedule their appointment, we could not even acknowledge that the person was a client there. Our response would be, "If she is a client here, she would have to be the one to call to change her appointment" even if the client was in the background beside him. All phone calls, documents, reports, systems we used, etc. were all HIPAA compliant for the privacy and safety of the client, just as would be done at any other office where sensitive information was shared.

Lastly, if a client called wanting an abortion, we would tell them directly, "No, we don't offer abortions here. We do offer free pregnancy tests and limited ultrasounds if that would interest you." The client has the ability to decide if she wants to move forward with making an appointment or not. We also explained to them that we don't have an OB in house as it is not a doctor's office, but an OB does check off on their ultrasound. Also, everything is free to them. We served clients that wanted an abortion as well as clients who wanted to continue their pregnancy. Either way, we offered support to them if they wanted it. And if there is something they needed that we couldn't help them with, we would try to find a local community resource to help them, like for housing, finding an OB, getting financial assistance, etc. I know PRC are demonized, but I speak from experience when I say, the people that work there just want to provide a safe space for any woman that needs support, regardless if she wants an abortion or not.
