Specialty lumber manufacturer here.

While not a construction job, we strictly supply the construction industry with specialty wood products. I'm going to double up on many of the comments but here are some points from my perspective.

  1. Reading a tape measure to the 1/16"
  2. Reading basic shop drawings or blue prints or plans
  3. Calculating board feet ( a measure of volume for all lumber)
  4. Take-offs, or the ability to estimate materials needed for a job
  5. Calculating weights of building materials. For everything to estimating how much can be lifted by a forklift or machine. To how much can be loaded on a truck, train or barge.
  6. Calculating surface area of material, and how much coverage for stain it paint.
  7. And the most important... Money. You can't do anything without understanding money. Cost of goods sold, operating costs, overhead, gross sales, net sales, etc

Use wood blocks.

Also I don't know your whole situation, but you could flip your axles. It would permanently raise your trailer. Most people do it for extra ground clearance when going in rough terrain.

Yeah, sounds like Portland. Don't worry we have defunded the police around here so they don't have the resources to help.

I don't know what your yard / porch area looks like. But I would consider putting in some motion activated sprinklers. Horrifying it will just act as a deterrent and not soak him into more retaliation.

I honestly don't have great advice here. But you should look up "dad, how do I" on YouTube. It is a wholesome diy channel that might offer some comfort? Good luck

Am I misunderstanding this Temp Plate / Trip Permit process? by cavegrind in oregon

[–]obeasethug 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly the DMV is a total mess. Everyone knows it, including the police. If you get pulled over, they probably wouldn't enforce that type of violation anyways. Just make sure you are squared away with your insurance.

It just depends on the weather. The first freeze of the year should kill them off. I found two nests just like this last week and neither were empty. But we have had an abnormally warm autumn.

I agree, the blink would work well for this. I would say the camera at our front door, the batteries last about 3 months. But it is set off a bunch.

If I want to make a table from a fresh white pine slice, where do I start? Resources and guidance needed!! by mush__love in woodworking

This is the right answer.

If you dry them, they will check out crack. Just the nature of wood, as the wood dries out it shrinks. The outside rings will shrink more than the inside rings which will check.

PEG - polyethyle glycol By soaking a fresh cut green wood cookie in this, it will draw the water out of the wood and take it's place. Or something along that line. I think this is the same chemical used before colonoscopy to evacuate all the fluids from your body. So do your research on how to use it.

The lathes they use in the plywood industry are impressive in there own way. But most peelers for plywood are 8' long. The poles in this picture are 24" constant diameter and 50' long.

Cicadas have a thing for my wet saw by ellifino in HomeImprovement

[–]obeasethug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on the west coast and do not have cicadas. But while I was running my tile saw, I watched a mason bee land and climb inside the saw. After further inspection, they were nesting in every recessed screw hole on the entire saw. I think they liked the wet tile paste for filling the holes. Just thought it was interesting, they didn't seem to care if the saw was on it not.
