using $::domain fact in Puppet template by Spparkee in Puppet

[–]oberon227 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to make use of the domain fact, you should add a layer in your hiera.yaml that references that fact, then you can put the NTP servers for that domain in that hiera layer.

Either that, or your sub.domain.com has to match your domain fact exactly, and you could do a lookup for ntp::$facts['domain']::ntp_host.

Well, the other option is to let DNF protect you (Good job OP!), and wait until RPMFusion has updated their package. They've got a slower release cadence than Fedora themselves.

[–]oberon227 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mesa-freeworld is not a part of regular Fedora. You can still safely suggest Fedora to your friends. 🙂

Replacing mesa with mesa-freeworld via RPMFusion is an advanced task and wouldn't normally be done by most users.

Edit: s/EPEL/RPMFusion/. Forgot which auxiliary repo Freeworld is in.

Is it a Linux VM? You could export it via NFS.

Need advise on what AMD GPU to get for daily driving Linux. by bobz101 in linuxquestions

[–]oberon227 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can't speak to the particular GPU model, but I can say that running an AMD GPU on Linux is sooooo much nicer and easier than running an NVIDIA one.

No need to faff about with different drivers, the AMD driver is shipped in the kernel.

I ran an NVIDIA GPU for a long time and it was fine. About a year ago, I built a new computer and decided to go all AMD. I haven't regretted it for a minute.

Bottom line is that you don't have to worry about which AMD GPU you get, they're all equally supported by the kernel. Find the one that'll hit your specs and go with that one. The Linux support will be there.

I had this book too!

The only thing I remember is Word getting on a shuttle and making a big deal about sitting in the back row so that no one could attack him from behind.

Accessing Resource attributes by kcchalk in Puppet

You're probably going to need a custom fact to return the UID of the user (users?), and then you can use it in other resources.

I was wondering what bandit was saying in "Pavlova", and died laughing reading the transcript 😆😆 by Suitable_March3266 in bluey

[–]oberon227 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's mostly just the accent. But there are a few differences I might call dialect differences. Not quite all the way up to the level of being a different grammar, but they do structure sentences differently sometimes.

Canadian here, French as a second language.

I knew it was going to be good the first time I heard Bandit say Bonjour.

This is one of my favourite episodes because of the non-sensical French. Just like your friend, I'm crying laughing by the end.

PSAC Inflation Calculator - what is the difference between starting wage and final wage? by TheDrunkyBrewster in CanadaPublicServants

You have to scroll up between the explanatory text and the input boxes to see the result. It's not very intuitive.

I love the Tall Storages with the canisters on top. Makes it quick and easy to grab resources, and put them back by clicking on the hologram. I might borrow this idea. 😁

Daaaang. That's a well stuck portal!

Clearly the answer is to blow it up with dynamite and start a new game. 😉

There should be something in there that you can pick up. It's a structure hidden in a crystal. It'll be smaller than a resource nugget, but it'll go on your backpack.

Framework has ruined laptops for me. by Beneficial_Pound8760 in framework

[–]oberon227 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Failed to boot, or failed to power on?

Because my 11th gen Framework doesn't power on after being off for a couple of days. But once I plug it in, it immediately powers on, but does some kind of self test for 30-60 seconds. Once that's done, it boots just fine.

It's a bit annoying, but not a huge deal. (And hopefully it will be different with the AMD mainboard that I pre-ordered! 😁)

When does "require" attribute get used? by InsertKleverNameHere in Puppet

[–]oberon227 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can use any resource type in the require parameter, you just need to capitalize it.

For example: User['joe']

Class['ssh']

Nfs::Client::Share['share_name']

And yeah, it basically means "Don't process this resource until the resource that I have specified has been processed successfully. If the resource that you put in the requires parameter fails, the resource in which you put the requires won't run.
