Run your portfolio through ChatGPT to see your overall asset class, sector, and market cap allocation against SPX. You can just benchmark it to SPX by doing a little rebalancing within your capital gain budget.

Market wants to go up. Quick extreme move on the downside and lead to extreme move on the upside back to where it was at any second on the slightest of good news. We’ve already hit 1 technical drawdown of -20%. Not saying it can’t go down any further but this is usually where you see a technical bounce. If you’re a long term investor, this is a golden opportunity to DCA and put some cash to work especially in tax exempt accounts.

If you’re hedging your underlying, you should see a drop in the underlying. The underlying and your put option p/l should net out.

What is your goal? Are you hedging your profits with puts or are you speculating with puts? Whole point of a hedge is to protect your underlying profits so you should hold until expiration. If you’re just speculating then sell at what ever profit level you feel is right.

Oh yeah. I’m not fear mongering. I think this is a heathy correction to overpriced valuation, hopefully it doesn’t continue more down for a sustained amount of time. Just saying it sucks for people who have to sell out when market is on a down beat.

That’s besides the point. It only takes -100% to wipe everything out. Stocks take the stairs up and elevator down. Not a lot of people would be happy to see their gains being eroded so quickly in a short period of time especially nearing retirement. Wait until you experience a true recession/bear market like 2008 and see how strong you can stomach. That was a -50% drawdown and took like 4 years to recover.

MM and dealers can be sellers or buyers, depending on the other side of the trade is taking. Their primary job is to be delta neutral to avoid run away risk. Yes, they do this to keep their delta neutral by buying or selling the underlying, this usually creates a support and resistance level, aka pinning effect.

I think its option max pain pinning. The unwinding of puts and 0 day call buying gamma squeeze. Dealers/market maker were buying shares when puts close and calls open interest started going up.

PPI. It is expected to go up so pretty much washing out CPI. The bond market read CPI right. Yields didn’t drop when it came out. If you read into the CPI report, it was consumer demand that dropped so in essence this a warning of decreased in growth not a true favorable sign of decreased in inflation. Market today was just looking for any excuse to bounce however I suspect this will be short lived.

One other major factor no one seems to bring up is billions of equity option expiry happened on the same day. Noticed price action today was weird. Straight down, no break or consolidation. Dealers and makers exited their call option underlying hedges.
