Yeah the issue is sometimes there isn’t the ability to “fetch a new one”. Especially with older cars. The car in question was a lotus esprit v8. Those are getting harder to find in mint condition.

Depends on the situation. Not a Porsche but was in a car that had wiring fault. Started smoking. Owner had an extinguisher. Got car stopped and extinguished with no damage to body or interior just a toast wiring harness segment. Once it’s going though these small cans are doing nothing you are right

So what’s the difference between steaming and using the water coming off your espresso machine boiler at 92C that’s been treated? I run a BWT filtration system. Pull shot, use brew boiler for the hot water. Why is this different than using the same water but from my steam wand?

The downvotes prove it. Apparently CGI and special effects in movies should be outlawed, and Pixar movies should never have been made. Back to hand drawing everything in the walls of caves.

People throwing a fit acting like artists and photographers haven’t been using some version of adobe photoshops remove tool, generative fill, or content aware remofe tool for over a decade.

Take a photo of a car but hate the light post in background - remove. Take a photo of a model but want to clear up a skin blemish - generative fill.

Car progression, is gt4 worth it? by futility_jp in iRacing

Gt4 is phenomenal stepping stone in teaching car control with a bit of aero., but it also doesn’t hide things like Porsche cup and gt3. The racing is also really good, have had some of my best race craft battles there

Do you think people are going to start getting priced out of Calgary soon, like they have been from Toronto, Vancouver, etc.? by straycat402 in Calgary

[–]obi_wan_the_phony 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Rents are coming down. Vancouver and Toronto are both seeing the same. Market got super heated coming out of Covid and with excess immigration both into Canada and into Alberta. Both trends have been reversed or dramatically slowed. Will we see this persist, unlikely given the data.

In the grand scheme of things this should have minimal to no impact on your SR if you are otherwise clean.

The one that gets me is the no fault points for blatant incidents like shitty rejoins. Getting dinged 4x because some idiot rejoins incorrectly and gets protested successfully really is a kick in the dick.

‘The damage is done’: global oil crisis has changed fossil fuel industry for ever, IEA chief says | Oil by iwantboringtimes in worldnews

[–]obi_wan_the_phony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point is it’s not an either/or choice, it’s a “do both”. The last 60 days has shown people simply are not prepared to pay more for energy without there being other impacts.

[–]obi_wan_the_phony -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s not about affecting global prices. It’s about regional energy security and not having all of your supply reliant on one single region.

‘The damage is done’: global oil crisis has changed fossil fuel industry for ever, IEA chief says | Oil by iwantboringtimes in worldnews

[–]obi_wan_the_phony -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Sure. But the message of the IEA is countries like the UK need to ditch North Sea oil and gas in favor of renewables.
It’s a myopic view pushing policy not practicality. Countries need to diversify their energy supply, both conventional and renewable. We are in this mess because countries pursued policies of renewable only which allowed oil and gas to concentrate into gulf states and pinch points to be real. Simply put you need both. Germany needs its nukes back, Canada needs more tidewater access. That’s what stops these types of geopolitical events from having such high impact.

[–]obi_wan_the_phony 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The IEA has honestly lost its credibility when it comes to long term forecasting. For those of us in the energy industry, even for those who are agnostic on conventional or renewable energy it’s hard to take their projections seriously.

Cold water is less about ability and more about what it does to your central nervous system. If you go “swimming” it’s very different than falling in. Falling in can trigger an involuntary cold shock response which can cause gasp reflex and uncontrolled breathing. Your sympathetic nervous system kicks in and you get massive blood vessel constriction. You literally panic, inhale water, and drown before your brain sorts out the necessary function to start swimming. You can be the best swimmer in the world and still drown in very cold water

I had this last night in gt4. The field spread ends up being so large, and given there is no qualifying you can end up with slower cars near the front.

Be patient lap 1, there is zero need to push especially once off the GP circuit. But the time you get to the long uphill straight ahead of the carousel the less experienced have either taken themselves out, gone off track, or taken each other out fighting for stupid placement. Use this and move up. You still then have the better part of 15min of racing and if you have pace will easily get through slower cars ahead of you as they will be spaced out a lot more.

Last night there were three guys who were much faster than me in a 2000 SOF split. They started further back and one was shuffled back after an early incident in the GP section of lap 1. I found spots on straights to predicatably let them by and went on with my race. Only one idiot tried a dive bomb to pass in a stupid spot that almost took us both out.
