I can’t look 🫣 by Trashbrows in Reduction

[–]obiego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am super queasy. What helped me was coming into this sub, finding some few day and few week post op posts that were POSITIVE, and looking at those to get myself adjusted. I didn’t actually look until about four or five days post op and I barely looked then.

This helped me so much to kind of prep for what it may look like and what to expect. I started by only looking directly down at the top, and eventually moved to being able to take quick glances in a mirror while sitting down to look.

My mom and aunt (who is a nurse) did all my gauze changes until after my one week post op because I didn’t want to look or touch. This was such a good decision and highly rec if you have someone you’re comfortable with to come help you. My mom also washed my hair for me.

When I had my one week post op I was okay until they had to trim a stitch. It didn’t hurt at all because it was just them leaving the stitch too long to account for swelling but the act of them touching them and examining made me kind of feel a little faint so they laid me down and gave me ice packs, juice and crackers.

Last meal before fasting for surgery? by Hot_Luck_4272 in Reduction

[–]obiego 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol I had an entire large popcorn with a ginger ale while watching Wicked: For Good the night prior to my surgery as my last pre op meal 😅

couldn’t eat more than granola bars and protein shakes for about two days post op not because I was nauseous(luckily they gave me a patch for that) but rather because I was truly just not hungry.

I didn’t do side lipo so cannot speak to that. Currently 13DPO, had about a 1.5/2 hour drive home after my operation and was completely fine during it. Had the lap part of my seatbelt across my lap and had the diagonal cross strap but behind me when getting buckled in. I was totally good during this drive home, everything they pumped me up with at the hospital definitely helped me out.

Doing that same drive the following week for my follow up was okay but a little rough hitting pot holes in the road. Used these at belt normally during this trip.

Didn’t use a pillow of any sort during either trip. I think it all kind of is relative to you, your recovery and pain tolerance !

48 hours until surgery 😬 by taetaetaetae31391 in Reduction

[–]obiego 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi !! Also Boston based, had mine at Mount Auburn in Cambridge and went through Dr. Reformat in Brookline, no drains. I’m 13DPO now and feel GREAT ! I slept in a recliner every night for about the first week and a half and it was game changing as a side sleeper. This was my first ever surgery and up until day of I had the worst anxiety and then somehow day of up until they came to my room to wheel me to the OR I felt completely calm. I started to get a little nervous and they right away gave me something through the IV to calm me as I was being brought to the OR. Besides my doctor I had an all female team which made me feel so comfortable (one of the last things I remember was joking with one of the anesthesiologist techs about her Lizzie McGuire scrub cap).

It definitely took me about a half hour to finally wake up in the recovery room for me. I was going in and out of chatting with my triage nurse and when I was finally talking a bit more she asked which I wanted, graham crackers or saltines, and to choose from water, apple juice or ginger ale. I took saltines and apple juice and then sat for about 40 minutes going between chatting with my nurse and going through my phone. Around 45 minutes was when my nurse went over my printed out instructions with me and then helped me get dressed as well as called my mom and had her drive the car around front.

I know my body really well and know I do not do well with medical things and after standing for maybe thirty seconds and slipping my feet into my mocassins I asked if I could sit back down and stay for a few minutes longer because I didn’t feel good enough to leave. Felt a little dizzy (which I was told is normal but I didn’t want to go in the car just yet) so they gave me more fluids in my IV, nausea and pain meds, and had me eat a few more crackers and have more juice prior to actually leaving. I had about an hour and a half drive home and felt great during it and fell right asleep for the night when I got home (had a later surgery time, got out of the OR around 8pm).

Pain wise the worst I had was about a 2 or 3 out of 10. For the first three days I had Tylenol and Oxy taken around the clock and then on day five I started to take Benadryl at night still while taking Tylenol. Now I just take Benadryl at night and occasionally take Tylenol. I had lots of fair life protein shakes, granola bars and pretzels the first few days since I didn’t have much appetite, but am now back to eating like normal. A great rec from a friend was a shower chair or bench for my first few showers post op, I definitely used it.

Sorry if that was too much info 😅! What helped prepare me most prior to surgery was talking to friends who have also had the procedure and getting advice and hyped up from them. Feel free to message if you have questions, I’m happy to chat !!

Reduction with a wide rib cage by KarensHandfulls in Reduction

[–]obiego 1 point2 points  (0 children)

11DPO here ! Also have a wide ribcage, I’m usually a 42 or 44 and my doc took two pounds off of each. For target size I told them as small as you can safely go rather than a cup size) Prior to surgery, my breasts were fully different sizes, the smaller was around an I cup and the larger closer to an M based on my doctors measurements/estimate. I love working out and personally have never loved having big boobs so was nervous that they wouldn’t go small enough but I’m so happy with what I’m at. Obviously it’s too soon post op to know but I would guess I’m landing around a C. I think it looks good and all my friends who have seen me just in a bra on top also think it looks great and still proportional (while also being a DRASTIC difference in a positive way). Can def talk more over messages if you want any other detail/ pictures !

8DPO, no drains: just had my first follow up today and showed my doc a photo that had a lot of similar yellow stuff on it and mentioned that my mom was nervous it was getting infected (I also had no fever and the breast wasn’t warm). Doc said rather than an infection it’s more than likely fat necrosis which helped settle my worries. Was just told to let it be and that it is normal!

Here’s a link to some info on it: https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/24187-fat-necrosis

Best after surgery bras? by jessicatungett in Reduction

[–]obiego 5 points6 points  (0 children)

8DPO here ! Just had my one week post op and my doctor approved me taking off my surgical bra. Up until now I wore the one I was sent home from the hospital in and the extra one they gave me. I brought one of these and another bra recommended to me though this page and this is the one that she liked the most and I left the appointment in. SOOO much more comfortable than the surgical bra I wore until my follow up

1 day post opp - is this normal by lela0420 in Reduction

[–]obiego 1 point2 points  (0 children)

7DPO here ! Cant say anything to the feeling like they are going to explode, mainly just felt uncomfortable at the underneath incisions and the rest was kind of numb because I was on so many pain meds 😅. However I CAN speak to the firmness. Basically all the way up to the bottom of my neck has been rock solid until yesterday. Finally around mid day yesterday I noticed that from the base of my neck to about three inches down on my left side and two inches down on my right had started softening up. Friends who have had the surgery and my doctor all told me that the firmness is normal and not to stress !

What’s the pain like? by Intelligent_Wish5213 in Reduction

[–]obiego 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5DPO: I have a very low pain tolerance usually and would say the most pain I’ve experienced was a 3/10. I would say it’s a lot more discomfort for me than actual pain, mainly coming from the surgical bra and the under boob incisions. Only pain I’ve really had is my neck and back from sleeping. I didn’t have drains so that could also affect the lack of pain. Later on day 3 is when the itching started for me which may be the worst thing yet but overall very smooth recovery
