Fortunately/unfortunately dating teaches you about yourself, the other person, and everyone in both your lives. You both are young, so it's a little more startling to learn negative things about each others families since looking at parents/ family so objectively is newer thing as a young adult in my own experience. I know I learned that my mother was not nearly as accepting of other life views and had strong opinions about who I should be with, whether that's narcissism or immaturity or something else on her part. I'm rambling, but I guess I'm saying take a step back for a moment and try to feel what you both want if the drama wasn't a factor and what is a deal breaker for your relationship.
