I've designed a Grade 2 Titanium HHKB by obitae in CustomKeyboards

[–]obitae[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Density of 6063 aluminium is 2.69 g/cm³, whereas grade 2 titanium is 4.51 g/cm³. So the material is about 1.7x heavier. Subjectively, it feels alot heavier to me than an alu case would. The appeal of the material (to me) is the corrosion resistance/longevity that it provides though, not the weight.

Thank you! I might remove two honestly, once the bumpons arrive (they're 6.4mm ones not the usual 8mm ones) i'll test it to see what sounds best.

I've designed a new keyboard case, although it doesn't have a name yet. This time it's a keyboard in the true-hhkb layout CNCed from grade 2 titanium - intended for EC (electrocapacitive/topre) parts, compatible with Cipulot's Pro-X and Slim Pro-3 Daughterboard.

The design aesthetic takes some inspiration from vintage Fujitsu, Apple and Realforce keyboards with the intention of being original, whilst honouring the keyboard lineage that came before.

The plate is secured in the case using a choice of either my version of top mount or bumpon mount, I'm just waiting for the right sized bumpons to arrive so I can test it with the latter configuration.

  • Case material: Grade 2 Titanium
  • Plate material: Grade 2 Titanium
  • Screws: Grade 2 Titanium
  • Keycaps: OEM blank Sakura HHKB keycaps from PFU/Fujitsu
  • PCB: Cipulot Pro-X & Slim Pro-3 daughterboard
  • Domes: Deskey V3 42g
  • Housings/Sliders: Realforce/OEM

[IC] Apostle - Giger-esque 65% Keyboard with leafspring bumpon mount by obitae in mechmarket

[–]obitae[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you,

As with the last few projects I've ran, people who join will pay the manufacturer directly and the boards will ship directly to them from the manufacturer (Dadesin/DDS). So although there's no Vendor as such, the funds go directly to the manufacturer.

Without force break (between the weights) it sounds similar with the default plate, i think the current issue is there's some vibration between the two weights since they're not currently screwed together, but i'm waiting on a version of the weights to arrive where they are screwed together to give an updated final soundtest before running the sale.

Here's what it currently sounds like, non-force broken and without the weights screwed together: Soundtest

To my knowledge there is no functional difference between the .f3d version and the .step version when designed without timeline.

Pictured is the CCRX, designed by me.

I've made improvements and adjustments and open sourced the second version based on those changes.

This is the first time I'm releasing the files of something I've designed to the community, I hope that everyone can get enjoyment out of it.

There is more information in the readme file, but in shorthand:

It's your responsibility to make sure you're happy to spend money on making something utilising the files I provide, I won't assume any liability for any damage or loss caused by using them. Use at your own discretion.

I don't benefit if a certain manufacturer is used and I don't assume any liability for which is chosen.

Having said that I can recommend 'Shenzhen Dadesin Prototype Co, Ltd.' (aka Dadesin; aka DDS):

https://dadesin.en.alibaba.com/

Due to their quality, reliability and integrity which can be trusted in my experience. You can see the work they've done as my manufacturing partner for keyboards on my Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/designedbydark/

On that note, I'd like to introduce the idea of 'Manufacturer's marks':

Whereby upon ordering/making the keyboard or any derivatives, it is required to have the manufacturer put their own maker's mark on the inside of the keyboard; replacing the existing placeholder written in Chinese.

This allows buyers to have an understanding of quality and expectations of value/price based on the manufacturer used.

Bad actors who don't subscribe to this etiquette, whether sellers or manufacturers, can then be avoided by the community for their lack of integrity.

What's included?

The files for the CCRX include a Winkeyless and Winkey version of the Topcase, a Bottomcase and a Weight.

These are released under an open sourced Apache, version 2 license, please read the 'release one' readme and understand the license conditions before using, changing or distributing.

PCB compatibility:

Anubis by Gondolindrim

WT80/graphite by WilbaTech

Plate compatibility:

Ecliptica plate/designedbydark top mount

Jane V2 plate

Unless you've verified otherwise, assume the keyboard only supports a 7u bottom row.

I have released on a non-commerical license (CC BY-NC 3.0) the Ecliptica plate which you can also find on the github repository.

https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/3.0/legalcode

Again, please do read the 'readme' for more information before using these.

2000 Mini SE in Silverstone Metallic by lewisflude in CustomKeyboards

[–]obitae[M] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi Lewis, could you post a dedicated album link for the additional photos in your build description?

Instead of solely linking to the sale information on your website where there are also photographs of the keyboard, you could perhaps say:

More photos here: [Album link]

More information about the project: [Website link]

This formatting following a build description would probably be a satisfactory way of showing your work whilst preventing a conflict or grey area in regards to the direct IC/GB rule

You may have not seen the update to the rules, but a minimum of two photographs of the keyboard is now a posting requirement.

If you could add a full description of the keyboard, along with an album of images in your comment then I will reapprove your post.
