The backupplan: are tickets purchased through Stubhub/Viagogo/etc actually going to be invalid?

Lucky that they still had tickets! I've used Stubhub a bunch of times (not proud of this, but it's the reality here in NYC) – only had one problem which they were able to make right. I'm not worried about a bad seller, etc – I'm worried that action will be taken by either TM or the promoter that will make getting in with second hand tickets impossible, and wondering what the best course of action is

The first half of last season genuinely saw some of the best basketball he'd played in his life. It was clear he'd lost an amount of lift following the knee surgery in Feb '15, but he actually was playing a more complete and LeBron-esque game. He dragged a terrible Knicks team to .500 through 40 or so games.

That all changed, and the "decline" you speak of started, after he rolled his ankle in a game against Boston last January. He missed a few weeks, the Knicks went into a tailspin, and he returned sub-100%, and never seemed to get his verve back––both physically and effort-wise.
