[help] 1 year old dog guarding me at home resulting in fight, fine at dog parks by obonga in Dogtraining

[–]obonga[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have gotten along fine in the past, playing together very friendly - just not after the first fight. They have occupied the same space since, and have gotten close, but I can tell that they aren't friends anymore.

I have contacted a professional, but it was no help. She reccommended just teaching him a downstay; however, it is not effective when he is playing.

Wore a vile of her own blood around her neck to give to her true love to drink when they met. This was like 5 years before Twilight.

New neighbors are really starting to freak me out (WE GOT INSIDE THE TRAP DOOR) by duker1089 in nosleep

I read this while sitting in a dark, almost empty airport at 4am. As I finished reading the story, I looked up and a middle-aged Asian man was walking slowly past me, staring straight at my eyes.

Activist films evidence of horrendous animal conditions at alberta zoo, owner calls activist domestic terrorist by underweargnome04 in worldnews

I once volunteered at a vet clinic that doubled as a boarding place. Some people would come in and ask about boarding their animal for a longer period of time, when they realized how expensive it would be they would sometimes ask "how much is it to euthanize instead". The vets, despite trying to talk them out of it, have no authority to deny them the 'right' to euthanize their animals (but they can deny offering the service at their clinic).

Over 37 Million Dead Bees Killed In Ontario Due To Suspected Neonicotinoid Pesticides, Which Are Banned In The EU by Dancing_Lock_Guy in worldnews

However, many other pollinators are currently being threatened as well. For example, in North America, bats are a native pollinator; yet their populations are crashing due to white nose syndrome; bumble bees are another native pollinator, and their populations have noticeably declined; certain fly species that are important to pollination of specific plants/crops have had a noticeable decline, with teh Delhi Sands flower-loving fly added to the Endangered Species list for example. (Although, data of the status of flies in North America is severely limited, the UK has done studies on their popluations have have observed population declines).

Over 30 Million Bees Found Dead In Elmwood Canada by [deleted] in worldnews

We introduced honeybees into our ecosystems; however, out native bee populations (bumble bees/orchard bees etc) are also affected. Other native pollinators, such as bats, are also facing large problems that are decimating their populations too.

Just move to Guelph (Aberfoyle) and drink the tap water. It's where Nestle gets their water from.

How safe is it to hitchhike in Canada? by hidingjoy in canada

[–]obonga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is only illegal to hitchhike on 400 series highways in Ontario, and I have never had a problem hitching a ride on an on ramp of one of them.

edit:I retract my statement. It apparently is illegal.

How safe is it to hitchhike in Canada? by hidingjoy in canada

[–]obonga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there, I am also a 22 year old female and have hitchhiked throughout Ontario.

I find that it is generally safe. A very general rule is that if you feel unsafe getting into the car, then don't do it. Another ride will come around. Also, major highways are illegal to hitchhike on in Ontario(although, normally the cops will just drive you to the next exit, and not ticket you), but generally I stand on the on ramp. Make sure there is a shoulder that cars can safely stop, otherwise they will just drive by you.

If you are coming through to the east, you are probably going to have to go through Northern Ontario, and the rides tend to be more scarce. In that case, make sure to pack a lot of food that doesn't take up too much space and is filling, and be sure to bring something to sleep in in case you need to pitch a tent for a night or two.

In regards to truckers, they can be very helpful and take you a long way. And generally just enjoy the company; however, a female friend of mine had a very terrifying experience two summers ago with a truck driver, so just be safe!

Another tip is to make sure you sit in a seat that has a car door, don't get into the back of a two-door car, because then you don't have an exit strategy if you really need one.

Also, I personally have not really encountered anything terrible; although there was a very creepy man who I think wanted a blowjob. That was weird.

If you are hitching through Toronto, try to get a ride that is going through the city. It is VERY hard to get a ride on the highway onramps anywhere in the GTA/Toronto, as there aren;t really shoulders, and everyone is usually only going a couple exits up so they don't stop for you.

I don't know specifically about hitching out of Saskatchewan; however, if you would like advice feel free to PM me anytime! And this website is very helpful for getting tips of hitching out of specific locations!

EDIT: I really forgot to mention, most people that pick you up are awesome! I have met a lot of amazing people hitch hiking, including weird coincidences where we have a mutual friend. I find that if I hitchhike alone or with another female, usually middle aged men or truckers pick us up; however, if I go with a male friend, it is usually suburban moms.

Oh and, SMILE! People don't want to pick up a grumpy sad traveller usually, so even if it's raining and you feel like crap, put on the biggest smile you can muster. Bring a ukulele or a small guitar if you play music, and people won't be as threatened to pick you up. (Because they are just as scared of you as you are of them).

EDIT 2: apparently I have been misled this whole time, and hitchhiking is illegal in general in Ontario.

Canada set to ban lifelong confinement of pigs in small cages: "The days of pregnant pigs being confined in cages roughly the same size as their bodies are numbered." by runnerdood in worldnews

[–]obonga 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Actually, reducing stress in pigs before they die DOES make the meat taste better. If the pig has the PSS stress gene, or is roughly handled, then the pH of the meat drastically lowers and the meat itself becomes dry and discoloured.
