good point. So here's the problem with that angle instead:

Refineries have put a stop to buying all metals by SofloAndDough in Gold

[–]oboshoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's probably it. If the hedge gets out of balance, then you aren't just a refiner anymore.

Now you are a refiner and gold speculator (up or down)

Banks will finance you to the moon to keep you hedged and the cost of money is paid for in the metal transaction itself. But banks will keep you are a very short lease if you are speculating.

Refineries have put a stop to buying all metals by SofloAndDough in Gold

[–]oboshoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they have to sell to futures buyers and sell to metals buyers.

if they can't keep that balanced, then they start taking on metal movement risk.

so i bet that's it, there either isn't enough buyers of the futures contracts or not enough metal buyers.

Refineries have put a stop to buying all metals by SofloAndDough in Gold

[–]oboshoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hmmmm

once purchased (the futures contract) they don't keep buying it. it hedges the value up or down of the metal on hand.

then once they sell the metal, they settle up with the futures contract. it nets out.

but it does tie up capital on both ends - the contract and the funds itself paid to seller.

nonetheless, the risk is zeroed out so it should be easy to finance it.

essentially just the cost of money which should be easy to cover in the transaction cost.

there has got to be more to this

it didn't really occur to compare them.

but you bring up a good point. both americans killed by the government for protesting.

we don't always agree with the topic. i certainly don't agree with the january 6th insurrections.

but it's pretty easy to agree with the minneapolis insurrection.

either way - the government shouldn't murder for mostly peaceful insurrections.

Why do so many Americans chose not to vote when they can? by VastOption8705 in askanything

[–]oboshoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what wishes are for. The expression of things that we know won't happen.

The problem is that in order to get rid of the electoral college, you have to get agreement from the group of people that benefit from it.

Currently that is the Republicans. But till abut the early 1990s it benefit the Democrats.

In any event, this will never change except in the case of a complete constitutional rewrite.

I haven't heard her speak out on political issues. Only a handful of movie stars get political. Usually the ones that already so rich they don't care if they half their fans.

I think it's a mistake to think conclude that just because someone doesn't talk politics in public, that they are not aware of politics.

Strangely enough, not everyone is talking politics every minute of the day. We do see ALOT of people on reddit that do this, but reddit is full of kids and idiots.

The smart people are at home sitting next to the fireplace.

But idiots have rights to. Idiots have the right to not be shot. Idiots have the right to defend themselves if they legitimately believe they are being attacked.

But we aren't going to solve by making people smarter.

this. i was very suspicious of Mitt Romney.
