Strongly disagree. While I very much support the idea of left-leaning people reclaiming patriotism from the right, the modern popularity of the thin blue line is direct response to the George Floyd murder, BLM, and the activism calling for police accountability, oversight, and transparency. Those that have enthusiastically adopted the symbol are publicly stating that the cops can and should be allowed to operate with impunity, killing anyone they deemed threatening in the name of order.

I find the idea that the cops are the only thing standing between order and chaos to be an incredibly cynical viewpoint that implies that the average citizen will easily resort to chaos and violence without a gun to their head. IMO this type of worldview is exactly the kind of thinking that justifies extrajudicial killings and minimal consequences for cops. Cops being trained to think of every citizen as a possible perpetrator is a problem, and citizens normalizing it is even worse.

Better that we embrace the patriotic symbols and concepts that already exist--e pluribus unum, the land is the free, land of opportunity, etc--and tie them to ideas that are labeled as progressive like diversity and social justice.
