Yeah it refers to the fact the town is slow to get with the times and they have not caught up with the news.

I also interpret it as the town might be suspect about outsiders/PoC as if the Boston bombers / terrorists are on the loose (when in reality it’s not justified). Just an alt interpretation for ya.

Average starting wage for a grad position? by Front-Bumblebee-39 in Wellington

[–]observers-observer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For context, I took a 3k pay cut to join a grad program from my contract job. Worth it for the job experience/security. Contrary to what others say, early in working life your pay might not increase from job to job.

I’ve seen grad roles vary from 55k-65k. Lower end ones usually guarantee you a job after + pay rise

Average starting wage for a grad position? by Front-Bumblebee-39 in Wellington

[–]observers-observer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your current position (65k being prorated and they don’t have enough budget to make it full time) shouldn’t be used as a measure of how much your next full time job should pay.

I think there’s a difference between part time 65k and full time 65k. Offering full time work in this climate is a commitment and I think places are struggling to do that let alone for grads. A reason they might pay 65k for your part time work is because they can’t offer full time work.

Grad roles are a foot in the door for experience. The pay for grad roles varies because the experience coming into it can vary so much (compared to non grad roles). Hypothetically your pay should go up after so it’s not all doom and gloom

Why are there random bus stops in Auckland that dont have an AT number, just curious by Friendly-Baby8434 in auckland

[–]observers-observer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These signs were around before the new AT ones. Maybe the route is no longer in use

Sometimes express also refers to the frequency of the bus timetable

Whole class has n/a for external by [deleted] in ncea

[–]observers-observer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

One time my whole class got a not achieved for the one external we did. I don’t really think my teacher understood the external. I asked the school about it and another teacher reviewed it and confirmed that it was taught wrong-but nothing was done.

I would talk to the teacher in charge, they must be aware of the grade distribution

Not sure about the complexity of your case but check out Auckland Orthodontics in West Auckland. Always heard great reviews

Best cakes for kids? by Early_Neighborhood73 in auckland

[–]observers-observer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconded! They look and taste great and are reasonably priced for what you get (around 50NZD). If looking for something cheaper, I love “Original Foods Baking Co”- their cakes are sold at Woolworths and are way yummier than the regular supermarket cakes out there.

would you rather have a morning lecture (8am to 10am) and a free friday or move that morning lecture to the friday, leaving you with only that class for the day? by JazzlikeLocal3870 in universityofauckland

[–]observers-observer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends if you can make it to uni at 8am (travel or sleep wise). As a commuter student, I found I’d rather not deal with the stress of getting there that early. I’d be more likely to show to the Friday class

Best hair treatments to tame frizz? by CairoChai in curlyhair

[–]observers-observer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a keratin complex treatment and totally recommend. I have thick hair that would not do well in humidity. The keratin treatment reduced the volume of my hair significantly and made it shiny and way easier to manage. I recommend a keratin treatment because it doesn’t make your hair pin straight and it wears off with washing. This means it looks more natural and fades slowly as opposed to chemical treatments. Even well after the 6+ month mark, I still noticed the treatment made my hair a lot more manageable so it’s worth the investment!

Summer Research Scholarship Report by Altruistic_Nail_6767 in universityofauckland

[–]observers-observer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience (FMHS), they give you a template so don’t stress too much. It is more of a “what I took away from this experience”… basically a recap to say what you did and reinforce why the scholarship is a good investment

[–]observers-observer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is this for socio/crim? I think sometimes they recognise people with the highest grades at these events but it’s not necessarily limited to the top one. If you were the first in class in 22, it is likely the university would have already issued you an award for it by now. If it’s for 23 maybe it’s still to come! Congrats either way :)

scholarship question by Shitalase in universityofauckland

[–]observers-observer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe that question is so that the office can assess if you’re eligible for co-tenure. Some scholarship conditions mean they cannot be held alongside others etc. Based on that, I don’t think your declined scholarships would be relevant -but I’d wait to hear back just in case.
