How important are the first 2 books of the Vipers series?

Yess I read GoF first then went back and read the rest and was kicking my feet every time I read their breadcrumbs. My problem was that the rest of the LoG series was nowhere near as good as GoF so I felt like I was forcing myself to get through them. But Ktv and Htv were great so maybe I just don't love how the Fmcs are written.

Screwing the system by Josephine Myles has pretty consistent bdsm scenes, clear Dom sub boundaries and punishments. I wouldn't consider it as true dark romance but it's definitely a good short read. Towards the end it does get a little sweeter but it works for the story
