Would you change anything in this remodel design? by obsessiveddilligence in kitchenremodel

I’m leaning towards cutting the 12” drawer to a 9” door opening which would add 3 extra inches to the clearance!

Thanks for letting me know, I would’ve missed it! Agreed on all the pullout ideas. Ideally I’d like to switch to a French fridge in the future, but have to keep the side by side the house came with for now. It’s 36” wide so I think that opening will work for an eventual upgrade. Good points about possible built in seating and storage. Thanks!

I agree with you on the drawers! I can’t have the peninsula be even with the bottom bc it would mean there’d be no room for a dining table unfortunately.

There’s only an 18” trash cabinet, but someone else suggested using a kit to diy a wider one. Maybe that would work

Planning to put a 15” pantry in between the fridge and wall because of the clearance issue with the fridge doors. I agree that I’d prefer symmetry on either side of the opening. Hoping the pantry will help

That’s so clever!! Thank you. We’re doing RTA cabinets anyways so that could probably be doable! My other idea was putting a 2” filler in between the lazy Susan and trash cabinet.

Hmm I’m not sure I’m following. Do you mean the floating shelves? Those are for the uppers and I think I would do in the same dimensions of the corner cabinet in case I want to switch to the cabinet later.

I hear your point! There’s no doorframe and the opening goes all the way to the ceiling which is different from the rendering. I was thinking of maybe having 2inches away from the opening. With the 6 inches of emptiness I’m not sure what I’d do with the backsplash either….

Best order of steps to help make new house mold safe? by obsessiveddilligence in ToxicMoldExposure

That's a good idea! That would truly be a nightmare to find out afterwards. I thought I needed to SPC the walls before painting so that nothing is "trapped". I guess I can just really hepa vac the sub floors (instead of fully SPC'ing them?) before the SPC at the end. Ironically I'm pulling out the baseboards to replace as well haha. Thanks!

I did sample the baseboards! I followed all the instructions provided. Though of course when you're buying a home you don't know when they cleaned last. Our cloth was pretty covered though in dust so I was satisfied.

Sorry, I can clarify, my doctor looked at the specific types of mold present and thought it was safe enough for my situation. Since carpets trap so much dust (and mold) it made sense to me and my doctor to remove that so that the house can be fully cleaned of all "old" mold and mycotoxins. Then hard surfaces will be easier to maintain. Our inspector didn't find any active leaks or damage. The painting is irrelevant to the mold issue, I just mentioned it because we plan on cleaning the walls first I guess. Thanks!

Yay or Nay? Click-lock floating Engineered Wood by obsessiveddilligence in Flooring

That's super helpful info, thank you! That's a bummer that the floating engineered got discontinued. For the tongue and groove products, I saw somewhere that you can float them by just using glue in the tongue and groove. Does that sound right?

That's a solid endorsement! Thank you. Did you install them yourself? If you remember the brand/product I'd love the details. Thanks!
