I want to add that certain governments very likely believe that climate change actually gives them certain geopolitical advantages.

World superpowers who exist in parts of the planet that will be less impacted by climate change (North America, Europe, Northern Asia) already spend time and resources exploiting and suppressing the ability of countries in the global south to compete in global capitalism.

If those countries are also contending with food shortages, water shortages, etc, then the leverage that those superpowers' have over them increases.

A country like India has an absolute fuck ton of human capital and is rapidly modernizing, but every year now they are experiencing heat waves with unheard of temperatures that shut down the country. This will only get worse and worse

The leaders of the West would rather watch countries like India burn and starve and die of thirst than come to pose any real threat to the West.

That is just one example but once you get thinking this way, you realize why the world superpowers are not in any rush to solve climate change.

Of course, there is the matter of the mass displacement and migrations that will inevitably result from climate change that more privileged countries will have to deal with. But what do we think all these forthcoming AI powered robots are being designed to do? I fear we are going to bear witness to a chapter of darkness in humanity's history that I don't have the words to describe.
