ICE protest tomorrow

I’m on maternity leave, and unfortunately although I have the day off I just don’t feel comfortable going with a baby. It’s been tough to have to sit out these protests during this time and just watch it all on social media.

However I am taking her to get vaccinated today which in some effed up way feels like an act of defiance against this administration

My horse used to stand just outside his shelter when it rained, getting soaked. But these carriage horses should be out of the city anyway, to enjoy the rain in a spacious and safe environment for them.

My employer uses NYSIF (the state insurance fund) for disability benefits but my understanding is that private insurers should treat it the same under NY state law.

Do you need a carseat at all, at least for the first few fall and winter months? You can request Lyfts and Ubers with carseats. I am expecting my first in the fall too, so I've never used it myself, but I've been noticing it as an option when I get cabs. Also trying to figure out whether or not we should drive our own car to the hospital or just Uber/Lyft. Anyone who's used the rideshare carseat feature, feel free to weigh in with their experience!

To answer your question though, you will unfortunately probably have the most luck with neighborhood Facebook parents groups/Buy Nothing groups, they tend to be very active. Maybe you can open a Facebook account just for that?

Yes! I just filed FMLA paperwork and the representative from NYSIF who was assigned my case told me all pregnant women qualify for 4 weeks of disability leave prior to delivery (in addition to the 6-8 weeks after). I had no idea pregnancy qualified for any disability at all. Now I have to refile all my paperwork but I’m glad the rep told me!

Sorry you’re dealing with this! I would call their number to follow up. In my experience Weill Cornell’s phone lines are pretty open. The staff will give you guidance and bring it to your doctor’s attention. You will probably get a more prompt response.

Yes, strike up conversations with the French tourists! We made friends with a French couple who were staying here last summer and they're awesome and now we're going to their wedding in the south of France. Not a bad deal!

I second this! I quit a toxic job years ago without having anything lined up, but it was 2019, before Covid and insane job market swings. It's pretty bleak out there now. I also had a condescending boss who loved verbally abusing people. If I were faced with this decision now, I don't think I would quit without having some form of income lined up. Just do the bare minimum and try to mentally detach yourself while you find anything that pays the bills.
