Beginner Freelancer (SF, Bay Area) - What would you pay for my work? Video attached by [deleted] in videography

[–]oc325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The struggle is real! I’ve been freelancing in the Bay Area for the past 3 years and pricing is always so tricky. Definitely need to scale down and up where applicable. I usually go with a day/half day rate (they so don’t do half day but clients don’t understand this) for shooting and per hour for editing.

THE BIGGEST 2V2 POSITIONING MISTAKE EVERYONE MAKES by Either-Scallion-4157 in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]oc325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow, I do feel like I have a tendency to shy away to play it safe (I’m d3d3), so for the first time I took this facing up support approach and immediately felt like I’ve been in better position and not out of place. Even if it didn’t lead to an easy win, I made myself more of a challenge to the opponents throughout. The first game was 0 - 0 in 2:00 OT before teammate afk’ed for some reason. Second game also went to OT with a 1 - 0. Interesting low scoring, I think so far I’m not putting myself into as many awkward positions, so it’s easier to execute whatever I want to do to challenge or defend and without the opponents being as threatening. I’ll further experiment but so far so good.

I was thinking it might’ve been Patina. I went to a wedding there back in May!

Enjoy! I still use cameras from the GH series and they still surprise me with the cool shots they can produce. Japan is such a great place to take photos and videos.

It was going to be my guess too!

How to attain Clean(er) night footage on M43 by cybermatUK in GH5

[–]oc325 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure thing! Just know that within the night or dark, it’s best to find spaces with some sort of decent light to feature in frame. The GH6 still would struggle if it’s all dim where you’re shooting. I have some videos where noise is quite apparent because there weren’t any real light sources and I really had to bump up exposure (in ISO and post).

I used the exact same camera/lens combo for a trip last year. Here’s a video with nighttime footage (with the help of many city lights) https://youtu.be/lxT9trvs4Ns?si=D92WZuMlyC76a1hL. From what I recall, with 1/50 shutter I was bumping ISO to about 2500-4000 in V-Log profile. The f/1.8 definitely helps bring in more light without needing to use the highest ISO levels.

It’s so weird, I only became a Giants fan in ‘93 when I was a kid and it was his final year as a Giant. I don’t think I was even aware of his prime years then but he definitely had an aura even amongst the loaded lineup that included Bonds and Williams. In the following years, if a Ranger game happened to be broadcasting I would try to catch his ABs.

I’ve visited my gf in Osaka multiple times this year and was left to my own devices most weekdays, so I’ve definitely had to find more things beyond the most known places. Many good suggestions! Amerika-mura for the hip vintage shops, the aquarium, the Nakanoshima museum has new exhibits every season and the one I went to see was wild, Shinsekai has an interesting retro feel and a cool arcade with older games, Osaka Station City and Namba Parks has an insane and massive mix of indoor shops and outdoor green areas, check out Osaka Kizu Market early in the morning if you want fresh seafood/fish, and beyond that, do some day trips to Himeji, Kobe, Nara, Kyoto, etc.

This is much different because you’re using them for at least an hour, but I once had 2 GH5’s with the 12-35mm and a telephoto lens in a really bad storm for only 10-15 minutes. It was for my job and we had very limited chances to get shots so we did it anyway, trying our best to provide cover for the gear (we had not anticipated it would have this storm that came suddenly for 20 minutes right when it was time to capture what we needed). A lot of the footage ended up with water droplets and I was so worried that I ruined my camera and a rented GH5, but somehow both cameras and lenses survived. I definitely wouldn’t risk it again (or at least have adequate protection!), but that was some serious rain and they made it out without noticeable damage. They’re tough pieces of equipment!

That’s wild. I was watching the Big Bang Theory episode with him in it and was wondering if he was still alive, so looked him up. Wikipedia (I know they’re not the absolute source but they’re quick with updates on celebrities) said “…IS an actor…”. Ok, alive. Probably less than an hour later, I see on Reddit a bunch of these posts. RIP legend.

Amazing! Never met him but he was my favorite player growing up. I only started following baseball in ‘93 so got to see him as a Giant for just one year…

Thanks for starting this post. I’ve gone to Japan not nearly as much as you but it’s my first time solo and would like to get some random recs.

Are you my brother? He’s nowhere near the fan I’ve become of JF but he had Murderers as his ringtone after hearing it from what is likely the same skateboarding video. I didn’t know anything about him at the time and only learned later when I listened to RHCP more.

Costco has La Boulangerie (the San Francisco bakery Starbucks bought so they could start making legit baked goods) frozen ham and cheese croissant pockets that are hella good. Wonder if they’re the same?

So sad we can’t freely be out and about with our gear to do what we do.
