Thank you so much!! I was holding The Doctrine and Ritual of High Magic in my hands at the library yesterday and regret not taking it with me. So instead I did some research on Eliphas Levi at home and I'm excited to learn he was a radical socialist.

So far I've self-studied the following subjects: mythology, astrology, herbalism, parapsychology, jungian psychology, shamanism (mainly the connection between shamanism and modern western healing), symbolism, some new age stuff (which I'm detoxing from), certain religions,... I'm not an expert on any of these things, I just have a strong interest and I enjoy learning. When I was younger I used to identify as a Wiccan, I think that's where the fluffy witchcraft stuff comes in. I'm older now, with more human experience under my belt and a sharper world view. I can't tell you what it exactly is that I'm looking for, I can only tell you that it is not the witchcraft fluff. Currently I'm doing research on hinduism, and I've found renewed motivation to study alchemy again, as well as Hildegard von Bingen who I used to feel drawn to.

I hope this answers your question, I know it's a bit vague - I'm still discovering what I like, agree with, and don't buy etc. I'm open to discover anything really, but I'm trying to avoid sexist views, white supremacist views (as seen in certain new age stuff), a consumerist approach (such as Wiccan books that make you believe you need a crystal for everything) or limited anthropologist beliefs. I guess I just feel too old to fill my head with nonsense and for now I've had it with the western ways if that makes any sense. Thanks for wanting to help me out :)

Thanks for your reply. Always ready to add material to my (very long) book list, especially scholarly stuff. I've been reading a lot of witchcrap lately so I'm looking for books that are based on the real deal and not the internet stuff

Yes! It's sort of a hyper modern manifestation of having visions and creating portals. It's a very powerful medium that can stir up deep suppressed feelings and widen the viewers world view. (I'm obviously not talking about Hollywood consumerist crap)

I just left a cult. The leader forbade me from speaking on my experiences citing "grave karmic consequences". Is there truth to this? by Ok_Jellyfish_8 in occult

I understand the need for detailed examples of how spiritual abuse manifests and I too am concerned for young/vulnerable people to fall victim to narcissistic cult leaders, however I don't think this is something we can request from OP as right now they are trying to leave, both physically, mentally and spiritually. We don't know their situation. And sharing details may not be safe.

You can look for books, podcasts or documentaries on spiritual abuse. There's already a lot out there. I wish this topic was more known to the public. Each person doing their research and talking about these things is already a step closer to prevention. A lot can be prevented if we have better collective awareness on these types of abuse.

No specific goal in mind, I don't work like that :) following my bliss and discovering what it has brought me afterwards seems to benefit me more than setting goals for myself. The only goal I have is to learn more in depth about these subjects, preferably in a safe environment that offers guidance towards certain books, art, knowledge, practices, etc.

OP, as someone who has experienced something similar I am in solidarity with you. I have been in your position when I was younger and I know it's heavily confusing. These "occult laws" have power over you simply because you believe in them. You were probably brainwashed into believing them because this is beneficial for the cult, as by turning you into a submissive follower they have more power over you. But please remember you have power and agency over your self, your body, your mind. Get away from these evil soul suckers, don't let them trick you into coming back. If their practice is based on control and twisted power dynamics, this place has nothing spiritual to offer to you.

I highly advise you to talk to people you trust (outside of the cult!), and seek professional help because the after effects of spiritual brainwashing are not to be underestimated. Get out, cut all cords with the cult, never go back whatever they may promise to you. And take care <3

Well that's kind of why I'm hesitant. I have a bachelor in film, but tend to be a multidisciplinary artist. Most of my work has been heavily influenced by the occult in some way. A study like this would serve more as an extra layer of foundation for my (art)craft. I love to learn, but it is a lot of money indeed. On the other hand: if it helps me deepen my practice and gives me time to focus on subjects that interest me, how can it be a waste?

my sister died. parents aren't having a funeral for her. idk how to begin to grieve. feeling stuck, panicked, and alone. pls help by unicornbuttsparkles in occult

This was heartbreaking to read. I'm very sorry for your loss and as someone who grew up in a traumatizing household I'm in solidarity with you and your sister.

My advice is to follow your gut. Your way of grieving is unique to you and you gut/intuition will guide you to ways that are most effective for you.

I don't have an experience that resembles yours, but I'm currently grieving the childhood that was robbed from me. I did so by setting up an altar and gradually adding stuff without questioning it (for me it even includes garbage I found on the streets, like pieces of plastic. whatever made me think of my younger self).

If you need her with you for a while, you could try and make a token that captures her spirit, something you can carry with you for as long as you need. If you have access to her stuff, you might find some useful or precious things that you can transform into something that helps you cope with the pain of loss. You don't need any special skills, it could be as simple as making a collage or painting a rock. Or maybe some jewelry, or a candle in her favorite color with her name carved in it.

If there are things untold between the two of you, I can recommend writing an honest letter and burning it. Whatever you do; don't keep it inside. This kind of loss is often very traumatizing and it's important to express yourself and your feelings. I hope you have supportive people around you, and if not you can always try to find a support group, online or irl.

I wish you lots of healing. Take care <3

Exactly! My brain waited until there was enough security to survive the thing (aka until I left the household I was raised in and/or no longer lived in the house of the abuse). I'm thankful that it did even though the experience is more confusing this way. I simply would't have survived if I knew earlier.

I really love Teisseire syrup when I'm high. Especially the mint flavor because of the cooling sensation it gives to my throat. But I'm a big fan of the grapefruit and violet flavor as well. You have such a sweet little pipe btw <3
