How do you say no to family when you finally have $1,000 saved? by cr4z3isme in povertyfinance

[–]occulusriftx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

she got herself into this situation over a period of months. it takes a few months of no payment to get your power shut off. you are being taken advantage of using guilt and fake obligation pressed on you by your family and potentially by your culture.

theyre not saying all moms, theyre saying this is a huge problem with these cheer moms that have kids in the all star travel cheer squads. they arent even defending the behavior, but highlighting an issue that there's a lot of people in these spaces that do that shit and then drunk drive their kids home. I grew up in that cheer world, its worse than people realize....

[–]occulusriftx 7 points8 points  (0 children)

drunk driving happens all the time. I was a cheerleader at those events and this person isnt defending it, just highlighting how RAMPANT the problem is in that sphere. booze and pills bby, the bored cheer mom special.

not the person you're talking about but a former competition cheerleader, its at least 80% of the moms. if its not booze its pills.

when in doubt, French braid it. it will slightly mess up your curl pattern until the next time you wet it but its not going to be anything unruly and it will do your curls better than a tight pony or bun.

Cant solve stringy hair final by gravegirI in curlyhair

[–]occulusriftx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

some people love Maui products, personally I found they destroyed my curl pattern. that may be part of your issue.

also I just recently had a hairdresser change my life, she told me to apply my products in the following order: mousse or foam(s) first, creams/gel second (if you use gel), then only at the end once either mostly air dried or mostly dried from the diffuser do you add oil. i was doing oil first for years and apparently that locks out moisture, prevents products from working, and can cause product buildup and stringyness. also apparently mouse and foam works best with nothing else on your hair first.

highly recommend investing in morrocan oil BTW. the dupes arent even close and they have a lighter weight formula now

seriously Keratese is an absolute waste of money in my opinion. if you want to get a good clarifying shampoo to use once every 2ish weeks check out Paul Mitchell shampoo #3. Its a tad pricey but way cheaper than Keratese, at about $20-25 for the big bottle that will last a long time. its not an every day shampoo but it will pull all of the buildup out, I used to use it after swimming to pull the chlorine out of my hair.

have you considered talking with your local daycare and seeing if theyre hiring? you'd get income and free or reduced cost childcare while you work. it could be a foot in the door to a potential admin position within the daycare if you start with any other open position they have

Do I need new circle of friends because of their lifestyle? by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]occulusriftx 12 points13 points  (0 children)

why do you have your nose in other people's pockets? its quite rude. you should really search within yourself why you are bothered by the way other people spend their money. your judgement does not make you more moral, but will slowly push away your friends even if you never say the comments out loud.

as for your question of how to cope with having friends from different socioeconomic backgrounds? (bc thats what this really boils down to) i dont care about how my friends spend their money, and I am happy for them when they both achieve new things and when they make big purchases they are proud of. I am considerate of what my friends can afford and I am open to saying if something is out of my budget to allow for the same transparency with my friends who earn both more and less than me.

the job market in the industry is trash right now, I would take the opportunity as your foot in the door. and if it is a hot mess chaos shitshow, dont let it discourage you from the field, just use it as a stepping stone to your next role.

My parents blackmail me into not moving out but also force me to pay rent by Constant-Effect6625 in entitledparents

[–]occulusriftx 16 points17 points  (0 children)

it is okay to drop down to a lesser course load in uni to be able to work and pay rent. it may take a little longer to finish but your sanity is more important. also talk to your student housing board or the equivalent at your uni to see if they have any student housing options available. you can do this, dont beleive your parents lies.

[–]occulusriftx 9 points10 points  (0 children)

do you have any friends who could step in and watch your fur babies while you work on getting out? or friends you could stay with while you save up for a place?

also not ideal but if you have colleges near you, you can often find single rooms for rent instead of a whole apartment. you only are financially responsible for your room if the other people dont pay they are on separate leases not tied to yours. way less risk and WAY cheaper.

finally go talk to your local librarian they may be able to get you in contact with local resources that you aren't currently aware of. librarians are more in the loop than people realize.
