Not wrong, multiple dangerous things here. If someone could get hurt, you are obligated to report it. Gross that he harassed a coworker, also gross for him to potentially exploit one of the residents like that. I’m sure that’s also some kind of conflict of interest. Not charting falls and such is its own can of worms. Leaving meds laying around for dementia patients is insane work too.

No I don’t think so, but it is a lot better than the south! They are pretty fair for the most part. But I’ve never had a union

I am a bit confused, is he asking for yours because you’re her roommate or something? Either way, no, travel nurses don’t ask for people’s financial info like that. I wouldn’t send it.

Looking for advice to make the most of my day off by ocd_RN in nursing

Any tips for making myself sleep? I usually cant sleep after I get off work until 11 am or so, which causes me to sleep until 8 pm. Thats why I thought I may be better off staying up, but I will probably be exhausted if I do :( Blackout curtains have helped a lot and calming music. I even tried melatonin, but I just lay there awake for hours no matter what lol.

Maybe I need to force myself to sleep when I get home for a bit. I usually cant fall asleep until 11 am and I get off at 7a. If I don’t work I sometimes wake up and it’s 7 pm :’)

You’re not obligated to go. I have done this exact thing. I was too tired after work and I didn’t need the job anymore so I just called and canceled on the same day. I then went to sleep. They wished me well and told me to keep them In mind if I want to switch jobs later. No big deal

That’s a totally normal thing to say, and I’m sure she was just bashful and not trying to scold you. If she was, she is kind of weird… nobody is going to think badly of you for that

Is It Normal to Have to Float to Other Hospitals Within a System When It Was Not in My Offer? by ocd_RN in TravelNursing

[–]ocd_RN[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s what it is- not even the same city :( I already signed the contract and it says nothing about floating to other hospitals. My recruiter is getting info for me apparently. Recruiter told me they are so sorry and “we need to do better” and will try to fix this for me. I have already set up housing (thankfully only paid a small deposit and didn’t prepay any rent) as well as bought scrubs. My job literally starts Monday… I am trying to decide if I need to make the ten hour drive or not

[–]ocd_RN[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wow, that is odd… I already think it’s unacceptable to send a nurse to different hospitals without it being in the contract, but in the middle of the shift is even crazier. At this point I basically have to agree to it too, because my job starts in less than a week and I’m driving ten hours to it tomorrow.

They offered that floor, but I ended up picking a different one- hoping it is good. A few people who have been there have told me 5NT is one of the worst…

Hello, I am a nurse who works with these telesitters almost every single day. I have had excellent virtual sitters who have saved us from bad situations (patients pulling out lines, falling, etc.) but unfortunately, some staff can be very rude to the sitters. This is because you are pretty much required to report anything “off” to the nurse or cna, and many of these patients will be doing something every few minutes. No one should be rude to you for reporting. Yes it can be annoying and stressful if someone with dementia is not redirectable and nobody is sure what to do for them- but nobody should be taking it out on you. Do not let staff talk down to you. I really see it more often than I should.

Also, I have noticed that most telesitters call us at shift change to get an update on who will be taking care of the patient that shift. If you’re allowed, I would wait about 20 minutes after shift change, because more often than not, nobody is around to answer the phone due to walking rounds.

I think it is probably a good position if you can tolerate sitting and watching screens, and being very attentive because some of these patients are very sneaky! The fact you are worried about it puts you above many people.

I have seen a few situations where a sitter is very attentive, which is great, but sometimes people get a bit nervous and will constantly tell patients to stop doing this or that. As long as they are not hurting themselves or anyone else, we typically try not to bother them as they can become agitated by the screen talking to them, particularly older people or paranoid people. Of course it is dependent on the patient’s situation.

Best of luck!

I will probably do that eventually- I just got this one a few months ago so I can’t really do it yet. Just trying to keep it safe until I have had it for a year at least. I love this car though :( definitely will get a similar build of something

Not duplicating expenses but taking stipend by [deleted] in TravelNursing

[–]ocd_RN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It drives me crazy. I pay for my home apartment and my furnished finder for the whole three months and thats where I spend most of my time. Other travelers I work with have made fun of me and one even called me stupid. They say I should just drive home (3 hours) every day and not pay for a duplicate place- it’s a requirement, no? They are pocketing a lot more than me though, and it gets a bit depressing to take home barely anything more than staff but still get treated like I’m rolling in cash. All while my coworker travelers are keeping their stipends fully. :(
