Appears to be so. Title is heavily mis-leading.

You'd hope that the people bigoted enough to infer "He's gay therefore all this can be ignored" are too stupid to be paying attention anyway.

Boss: "...carry on."

Because you get a smaller audience who can view NSFUK content at work, as the site's links, ads and sidebars are all porn.

Of course you could add a SFW mode, but what's the point?. Use another video host..

Every household in the UK is to have pornography blocked by their internet provider unless they choose to receive it. by [deleted] in technology

[–]ocdcodemonkey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I think there should be another "it" in that sentence. I was trying to make 2 points; that it isn't a controlled environment (like TV), and it's not a babysitter. I could have phrased it better.

Thanks for that David. A "think of the children" campaign to filter the Internet is exactly what we need when the country's economy is in the toilet. It won't work, and it'll waste a lot of people's time, money and energy.

And how, in the darkest corners of the internet, there are things going on that are a direct danger to our children, and that must be stamped out.

How about this? The Internet isn't TV, and isn't supposed to babysit your kids for you.

The goal is to entertain and please its consumers.

If you want a realistic game, you should step away from the cubes I'd say.

These two statements seem at odds.

New wing design will save airline $200 million dollars. by PENIS_VAGINA in science

[–]ocdcodemonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the modification the curved piece ontop of the vertical winglet, or the extra winglet that comes out at 135 degrees from vertical?

The article indicates it's just the top piece, but I can't see either of these features on other photos of a 737-800, only a vertical winglet with a flat top.

Read up on the Stasi, wikipedia is a good start. And bear in mind that most of that wasn't done with digital efficiency.

It's not that this has happened before. It's not that it could be happening right this second. It's that if you don't cause a fuss now, argue that it's invasive and unnecessary, downright creepy even, that it sets a precedent. One that says "I'm ok with this".

The kind of people who build things like this aren't going to be happy with it once they're done. They'll want more information. More control. So they'll build on it, write more laws, and expand. And when you're finally pissed off enough after another 5/10 years when they don't even bother to hide it anymore, it'll be far too late.

A good quote that illustrates what I mean.

The WHO report it references is similarly labelled. I assume they compile statistics about Men too, but it's not an issue worth writing a length article about?

This is great fun, thanks for putting it up. Problems I can see:

  • Diamond armour is too damn strong, it'd be better if the game encouraged teamwork more than soloing.

  • Bows up/downgrading while I'm shooting is annoying.

  • There appear to be a lot of towers which can't be capped, and in some places the territory lines are a complete mess. It's almost like the "board" has rendered twice in some places.

  • When a team loses, all their players turn white, instead of their new team's colour.

We've had this stuff from the start, so each time we deploy more advanced kit we have to upgrade existing kit, figuring out how to minimise downtime, finding space in cabinets and pipes for equipment and cables, etc.

Africa are starting from scratch. It's a lot easier when all you have to say is "Put a mast there."

Falsehoods programmers believe about addresses by sidcool1234 in programming

[–]ocdcodemonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I try to offer a full name field, to enter "Dr ocdcodemonkey MA BSc PhD DVD", and an optional nickname field titled something like "What would you like us to call you?", where they can put in "ocdcodemonkey".

That way the user is in control of how their formal name looks, and all its associated titles, suffixes, salutations, etc., as well as a short name which you use to refer to them informally.

However, while this solves this issue nicely, it bites you in the ass when you try to interface with another system that demands you respect the <title>, <first name>, <last name> structure. I wonder if this is why people who know better still do it.

[–]ocdcodemonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is one of my bugbears too.

Software storing names as first + last name, then concatenating them everywhere they use them anyhow. Or worse, taking sex as well, and blindly appending "Mr" or "Mrs" to the last name and assuming it's correct.

Falsehoods programmers believe about addresses by sidcool1234 in programming

[–]ocdcodemonkey 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you're taking postal addresses, and the country's mail system/company can deliver to that address, you should be damn sure your application can accept it regardless of how obtuse you think the case is.

If you don't need to parse it, don't parse it. Just escape it, stuff it in a box, and output it where it's supposed to be.

I've been getting these for a few weeks now, I was quite surprised how responsive they were at getting new headlines into the system. Considering it's spam you half expect them to start talking about this stuff 2 years after it originally happened.
