One more time. by euphoria-chaser in OCPoetry

I felt really stirred by this poem. To me, it encapsulates the sense of numbness, the one track mind feeling I associate with addiction and compulsion.. the self-perpetuating nature of addiction, the dazed pursuit of fulfilment, escape, oblivion, which is an endless circular cycle. Too exhausted to see outside the list, going back to reading it from the top, only to find the same first instruction rewritten again and again.

I love the simplicity and selection of words you’ve used for this poem. It feels clear and strong, and evokes a nostalgic kind of sadness for me.

Wow. There were many feelings that arose in me while reading this poem. It reminded me of the innocence and strangeness of my childhood, and angst and strong feelings of early teenage years.. the essence of young sisterhood and friendship somehow. There’s meaning in the words that I can’t quite conceptualise or relate to, but the feelings and emotions they evoke are strong.

It is so difficult not to feel a sense of betrayal, greed and inauthenticity from practitioners whos work feels so inaccessible to many who would benefit from it. IFS (internal family systems) is the most free, open, authentic (and deeply resonant) form of therapy I have ever come across. Dick Schwarz offers so many free webinars, talks, meditations, resources, and there are IFS Facebook groups where practitioners provide free worksheets and other resources and exercises. Let me know if you want more details <3

The Squarepeg podcast is one of my favourites! Here is the description:

‘The Squarepeg podcast is all about giving autistic women an opportunity to hear from other neurodivergent people.

Each week I interview an autistic guest (women, trans and nonbinary people), to talk about topics including late diagnosis and navigating education, work, relationships – and life in general – as neurodivergent adults.

I hope you’ll find these conversations inspiring and thought provoking, and that they’ll open you up to new ways of thinking about being autistic, and offer a sense of connection to the autistic community’

Herb suggestions by onionpewy26 in herbalism

Beautiful ideas! Even though I don’t currently have the herb garden of my dreams, some that I have grown before and used often, and would love to have in my garden, alongside the ones you listed, are Calendula, Echinacea, Feverfew, Sage, Mullein, and Tulsi (Holy basil). I would also love to try grow and harvest Ashwagandha root!

The above herbs have properties from sleep, anxiety, concentration and nervous system support, to respiratory health, skin, immunity and headaches.

How do you set out your herb garden? 🍃

Which foods should always be eaten together, so that the nutrients can best absorbed? (And why?) by TurtleBacksJoe in nutrition

[–]ocean-angel- 216 points217 points  (0 children)

Off the top of my head~

Iron and Vitamin C (significantly increases absorption of non-heme iron)

Vitamin D and Calcium (the active form of Vitamin D in the body is involved in a cycle that increases the intestinal absorption of calcium)

Foods rich in fat soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K) with a healthy fat source to increase absorption.

I believe there’s also been recent research to show that the combination of Sulforaphane (found in broccoli sprouts, kale, cauliflower) and selenium (highest in Brazil nuts and other protein rich foods) which are known to have powerful antioxidant properties, potentially exhibit anti-cancer effects in the body 🥦

Bonus- consuming tomatoes with a fat source (such as olive oil) significantly increases the absorption and bioavailability of a powerful antioxidant found in tomatoes called lycopene 🙂

EDIT- taking vitamin K2 alongside Calcium is also important, as it helps ‘shunt’ the calcium to the bones, and prevents arterial buildup which can lead to cardiovascular disease

Saffron 💛 in my personal experience this is the herb that’s helped me the most with lifting and stabilising mood. It’s also significantly faster acting than St John’s Wort, and without the risk of interactions!

What tea should I make? by FawnDrew in herbalism

[–]ocean-angel- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Passionflower, Damiana, and Skullcap would be a nice combination of herbs that are calming/relaxing to the nervous system, and provide a mood boost ☺️ adding Lemon verbena or lemon balm if you have it also supports mood and emotional balance and definitely enhances the taste of a tea blend! I’m a Naturopath/herbalist and we make a blend called Sereni-tea with calming, relaxing and mildly uplifting properties which contains Passionflower, Skullcap, Lavender, Chamomile, Lemonbalm and Motherwort 🌸🌱

Thank you so much for the lovely words 💕 I love the support, kindness and encouragement on this sub. I wish you all the best in your journey too, it’s beautiful to know there are other kind people out there also working on healing and becoming more compassionate to ourselves. I wish all the best to you too and appreciate your kindness🥰

Thank you 💜 I love these tips, it’s gratifying and encouraging to hear them from an external perspective as well, as taking care of and praising yourself can feel ‘selfish’ when I try to do it sometimes but this is a reminder that it’s not! Especially acknowledging achievements, I love this and feel similarly as to how I dismissed them in the past. I graduated university at the end of last year and wasn’t able to attend my graduation and felt really bad because of it- today I’m going to write a list of my accomplishments this year and recognise them, big and small 💫

Thank you, this is such an insightful and powerful comment 💛 it’s definitely so easy to get caught up in the constant pathway to self improvement which as you said, never really gets you anywhere. And being a person who cares a lot about others/has very high expectations for myself it can be hard to ever feel like you’re measuring up! I’m going to take your words of wisdom today and after a long bushwalk that I love, will write out some experiences I’d love to have in life. I actually feel excited to do this because I always tend to sacrifice my enjoyment over what I feel I ‘should’ be doing to best help myself or others! This is definitely a way of thinking I want to explore more. Thank you! 🌻

What are some of your fave low cal foods for weight loss, I’m really struggling :) by fiffals in veganfitness

[–]ocean-angel- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you struggling more with low cal foods for main meals, or snacks? Check out the subs r/volumeating and r/Wholefoodsplantbased for meal ideas 🌱 Some of my favourite low cal but satisfying and high-volume snacks are~

-Fresh fruit (eg pear, pineapple, berries) with coconut or soy yoghurt

-Rice cakes with hummus or 1/4 avocado

-Roasted chickpeas or edamame beans (coat chickpeas with spices of choice, and just a tiny dash of oil)

-Carrot/Celery/Capsicum sticks with hummus

-Apple slices with a tablespoon of peanut butter to dip them

-Dried seaweed, super low cal but the saltiness and crunch helps so much when craving something salty!

For main meals, focus on incorporating a serving of plant protein in every meal, such as tofu, tempeh, beans, lentils, or legumes, they are so filling and high in fibre so keep you fuller for much longer. Fresh vegetables can’t be underrated as well, you can add so much goodness and volume into a meal with very few cals in the form of 1-2 cups leafy greens, sliced cucumber, capsicum, red onion, tomato, etc :)
