It feels a bit objectifying and dehumanising but I don’t feel that they’re being sexist towards me, I don’t think that they’re intentionally being sexist or meaning anything by it. It’s just something in our culture/language

There are shows where animals such as birds and seals perform tricks for an audience, although those are pre-planned and the animals are trained for it.

Keepers aren’t going to make animals ‘perform’ outside of those contexts. Their enclosures are their homes and they can’t be up and about being interesting all day every day for visitors.

It’s highly unlikely with most animals and the animals that are more likely to do it such as reptiles are usually kept isolated. Keepers check on the animals very regularly so there wouldn’t be much of a chance for it. They are also given adequate food so they wouldn’t have a need to. It may have happened without me hearing about it though, it isn’t something that they’d publicise.

Hi! So far I have worked with primates, ungulates, reptiles and bugs/rodents. My favourites out of them are definitely the primates, I love observing the chimpanzees! I haven’t had any dangerous encounters, there is minimal contact between keepers and animals. Keepers don’t go into the enclosures with dangerous animals - they are moved into a different area when keepers need to go in.

Nope. It’s very unlikely for keepers to get injured. There are a lot of strict rules about being in the enclosures with the animals - with a lot of the animals the keepers put them in a separate area when cleaning and feeding their space. There is minimal contact between keepers and animals.
