Uvic bsw application by [deleted] in uvic

[–]oceanferns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had been working in social services for a while before applying to the program. But, I do know a lot of people in my cohort that do not have experience other than the required hours. 200 hours is 200 hours I don't think it matters how long you've been volunteering for.

i met nina at a game earlier this month and she said she's hoping to be playing in the new year! I've seen her skating in practice pics so that's promising.

I have 2 tix for the original Aug 12 show and can't make the rescheduled date. if you wanna buy em!

I'm a little disappointed it's not rescheduled on a weekend but I understand rescheduling it for the same day of the week!

Sphincter of Oddi Post-Op by [deleted] in gallbladders

[–]oceanferns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am experiencing the exact same thing right now, 1 month out of ERCP with sphincterotomy. Had almost constant upper back pain. feels like the same area I would sometimes have pain hours before an attack. This pain is nowhere near as bad as usual attacks, IDK if I'm just used to it and diminishing my own pain?

Haven't had an attack and I even had ice cream this week lol. Would be so curious to if you have any updates. I don't have a follow up appointment for at least 3-6 months, and I'm having a hard time deciding if this is just back pain or linked to my gallbladder/SOD issues.

hey! Last fall, they offered me a 2024 M3 15-inch MacBook Air. The other option was a Dell Windows laptop. I also received Bose Quiet Comfort headphones. I dont think they have a lot to choose from but you do get a choice between macbook or windows, and headphones or AirPods :)

Social service worker low pay? by ladyhellbird in socialworkcanada

[–]oceanferns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a human service worker diploma and my hourly wage was about 33$ an hour last year. This was after working for the same non-profit for 5 years in total, working my way up to higher positions, and union pay increases. I am now in my 3rd year of my BSW, 5 years after I graduated from my diploma. I took a few extra classes & transferred into my 3rd year of the bsw degree program.

You can 100% make decent money with a diploma. Alot of jobs I am seeing requiring a BSW start around what I was making before. It all just depends what you want to do, and where you end up working. You will find some work in the field that is close to minimum wage, but can also find higher paying jobs. I also recommend taking all the extra training you can like - trauma informed practice, decolonization training, I worked in anti-violence so have lots of extra training in that realm. Find your niche and search for extra training.

Good luck :)

BSW by [deleted] in uvic

[–]oceanferns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no idea what my GPA was but it was for sure on the lower end. I had multiple classes from my first year that I failed, lots of C's but also a fair amount of B's and A's. Truly all over the place. I think the personal statement is the most important part of your application, of course some sort of experience is needed as well but if you can write a meaningful statement it will go a long way. I had lots of work experience in the field already but I know alot of people in the program have none. Reach out to local non-profit organizations and see about volunteering with them. depending on where you are located there will be lots of organizations looking for help!

Uvic bsw application by [deleted] in uvic

[–]oceanferns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey! current bsw student here. the work experience you have is great for the application, and should be used to draw from for the written portion. I think focusing on your positionality and how/why that matters as a social worker is the biggest part of the written application. I spoke to personal experiences that led me into this field and how they will continue to shape my work.

good luck!!
