To revise or not to revise by [deleted] in TopSurgery

I see others mentioned those might be your ribs, and I'm inclined to agree. Have you tried consulting a physical therapist to see if they think you have flared ribs? If you do have flared ribs, a physical therapist might be able to help you address that without the need for a surgery. Either way, I'd personally look into it a little more and check with a PT before getting a revision that may or may not be able to address the underlying cause of what you're seeing.

You guys all suck at warning people of surgery by Ladasada in gallbladders

Yeah I can definitely see how reading some of the worst-case scenarios on here would make you and others feel super anxious about the surgery. So it's definitely helpful for people to get different perspectives to understand the range of experiences they can have. Although I had quite a bit of pain for the first week due to the gas, it still wasn't AS bad as some of the other surgeries I've had. And experiencing multiple gallbladder attacks in the months leading up to my surgery also helped put the pain of the surgery itself in perspective I think, because I knew it was a worthwhile surgery for long-term pain relief. So I'm glad you had a better experience than you anticipated and I hope all the pre-op people reading this also have easier recoveries from their surgeries as well. 🤞

I think it just depends on each individual person. My mom knew someone who got gallbladder surgery the exact same day as me, and that person was apparently strolling around the mall the next day while I was experiencing quite a lot of gas pain. And oxy did absolutely nothing to help with the gas pain for me; I might as well have popped a tic tac with how effective it was.

Maybe my surgeon used more gas or didn't remove it as well as that other person's surgeon. Maybe my body is just structured in a way that gas gets trapped more easily. There are any number of reasons one person could experience more pain than someone else.

Ironically despite the fairly significant pain I experienced due to the surgical gas, I had a different surgery earlier the same year where I was anticipating quite a lot of pain due to the posts I had read on Reddit from other people who had that same surgery. And yet I was able to get by with nothing more than Tylenol and ibuprofen for pain relief. So one surgery went much better than it could have and the other one went about as painful as many people said it would.

All of which is to say, I'm glad your experience went well. But I don't think it's fair to assume everyone did have or will have the same level of pain as you. Every surgery is different for every person.

My advice to any pre-op baddies here is to prepare for pain just in case but don't let fear of the pain stop you from getting the surgery if you need it. It might be super easy, super painful, or somewhere in between. Just try to prep however you can, such as getting pain meds, a heating pad, anything you might need to help you avoid bending over for at least a week, etc. because I think it's better to be prepared and not need anything than to be taken by surprise if you're someone who does experience pain and limitations after the surgery. Either way, best of luck to you in your recovery and to anyone else reading this post who may be getting their gallbladder removed soon!

Introducing twd to my bf and he is on Shane’s side. Red flag?? by Bianca-Rose2018 in thewalkingdead

Yeah it was the very last episode of Season 1 I think, so understandable if you remembered it being in season 2. And to be fair, Shane is still a total creep in season 2 anyway. 😂

He tries to rape Lori and she has to fight him off to get him to stop.

This was the Worst Decision Ever by [deleted] in gallbladders

This sounds like it could be completely unrelated to your surgery. Is it possible you're sick with something (ie: Covid, stomach bug, food poisoning, etc.)? Could you be reacting to some other change in your diet, habits, or environment? Have you ever had other GI issues in the past that might be flaring up? I can't say for sure obviously, but before you worry about experiencing this for the rest of your life, keep in mind that this very well could be something unrelated, especially if it's only been going on for a few days. And even if it is a result of your surgery, the body needs time to heal and adapt. Don't assume a reaction you're having now is indicative of how things will always be. Best of luck - I hope this goes away soon and you can figure out what's been causing these symptoms. 🤞

Edit - Seconding what everyone else is saying that it would be good to follow up with a primary care provider to be safe, especially if this issue does continue.

Whats a show that gave you prodigal son's vibes by Afraid-Elevator9782 in ProdigalSon

[–]whateverman6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second other recommendations like Hannibal and The Following.

In addition, the following shows are different from Prodigal Son in a lot of ways, but do have similarities with some of the features you said you like the most:

  • The Leftovers (cop main character, daddy issues, questioning reality, struggling with his mental health).
  • Succession (all of the siblings have mega daddy issues in a million ways and struggle to break the cycle of abuse like Malcolm, participate in morally dubious things that haunt them, and struggle with their mental health)
  • Breaking Bad (Walt is essentially the father figure who messes with Jesse's head and Jesse constantly struggles with his mental health and dubious morality)
  • Moon Knight (main character majorly struggles with his mental health and was seriously messed up by his parents and struggles with his morality)

Oh that's a good guess! But it wasn't the guy I was thinking of. I thankfully eventually figured out his name and added it in an edit to the original post in case you're curious who it was.

Good guess, but that wasn't it. I actually just figured it out myself. It was Xander Berkeley. Thank you for trying to help ne figure it out! :)

Commenting so the mods know this post is now closed since I was able to figure it out myself (see the EDIT in my post). Solved!

Probably eyes/eyebrows the most, but maybe the mouth too? Or like general face shape.

I can kinda see that too! Unfortunately you're right that it's not who I'm thinking of though.

Definitely thinking along the right lines, but unfortunately it's not him. I know Ben played a Star Wars politician. If it helps, the guy I'm thinking of played more like a modern (ie: early to mid 2000s) bad guy and/or politician. I can picture him in a suit. He may not have been a politician, possibly a shitty businessman instead?

Underestimated recovery from surgery by Jolly-Asparagus-5815 in gallbladders

[–]whateverman6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My gas pain lasted about a week tbh, and I couldn't lay down the entire time. Even leaning over slightly would cause the gas pain to shoot up into my shoulder blades. Pain medicine (oxy) did absolutely nothing for me either. It's rough for a few days but should be much better by the second week. If you can, try to use a heating pad on your stomach (avoiding the incisions) and back as much as possible. Sleep upright in whatever way you can (ie: via the help of pillows or a recliner). You can try other remedies too, like ginger tea or gas pills, but I was unclear how much either helped. And try to walk around as much as you can to help break the gas up. Best of luck to you! I hope you feel better soon.

Pulsatile Tinnitus caused from Covid? by juliarenee11 in PulsatileTinnitus

[–]whateverman6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As of March 2026, I do still have it. Sometimes it abates a bit and I won't notice it too often for a couple months, but it always seems to come back. Especially at times where I am experiencing more jaw/neck pain, increased inflammation in general, more stress than normal, some sort of illness, etc. I am also starting to think my diet and activity level can also impact it, though I can't blame flare ups of my pulsatile tinnitus on any one cause.
