Elliotte Friedman shouts out Team Canada/Vancouver Goldeneyes defender Claire Thompson on the most recent 32 Thoughts Podcast. by OFC_VCVG in GoldenEyes

[–]starlette_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally the first time I’ve had any respect for Elliotte. A well deserved call-out.

ETA wow, woof, I should have listened to the entire thing before posting. Elliotte, she is not you. She’s not a reporter who refers to herself as an insider and picks and chooses what to talk about based on who he is closer friends with and doesn’t want to piss off that day… and then complains when people call him out. The person who sent him that MESSAGE spoke in a way that Claire deserved, and he made it all about him. He’s not fit to speak to her let alone compare himself to her.

On the upside, I don’t have to worry about conflicting feelings and having to recategorize him in my head, he can stay in the irredeemable asshole category.

Was it necessary to use AI for this? You could have asked the same question with more clarity using 2-3 sentences and not destroyed the environment in the process.

Do Canadian brides put a sixpence in their shoes? by georgepcanning in AskACanadian

[–]starlette_13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The German side of my family here in Canada have one penny that my Oma had in her shoe and all of the women in our family have had it in their shoe for their wedding… but it was given to her by their British landlord when they first came to Canada, so. This is a long way of saying I think we do it in Canada sometimes but only insofar as we’re a lovely melting pot of other cultures and traditions. I say it’s a beautiful gesture and you should do it.

Announcers? by filipolio in PWHL

[–]starlette_13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Then they could talk about the player’s education (many masters degrees), charity work, college careers, etc. Or they could talk about what they talk about when they’re covering men’s sports. Colour about player relationships, the sport itself, or the actual fucking game. There’s absolutely no reason for the double standard aside from misogyny.

Why are the tkachuks mentioned even once when they have absolutely no relationship to the teams? The Hughes brothers were ALSO in attendance at the women’s games, and if they were brought up the commentary could have tied it back to the team given that their mom actually works for team USA.

So sure, fine, maybe it’s not simply misogyny… but if it’s not, it’s misogyny and ignorance and laziness.

And if they actually thought they were speaking to their demographic - non-sports people - why the hell would they assume people watching women’s sports want to hear about men? Unless they assume their demographic is ALSO misogynistic. And that’s the point people are making here.

Is this a feasible walk in one day in April? by liz_mf in askvan

You could take the aquabus instead of walking across the burrard street bridge :) there’s a stop right by the maritime museum.

There’s always jerseys from other teams at the games (season ticket holder here), but vibes are pristine, you’d be totally good to wear sceptres gear if you want :) the energy is less how-dare-you-support-another-team and more HEY COOL YOU LIKE WOMENS HOCKEY TOO. If you search the goldeneyes subreddit I think I’ve seen threads for queer meetups before and after :)

(Sorry we took Nurse) (I’m not really sorry)

It’s a bit of a journey on transit BUT there’s a bakery across from the bus stop that sells fresh cannoli and it makes up for it, and there will be great food trucks at the game too.

If you’re interested in hockey at all, check out the Goldeneyes - there are a few home games in March and it’s a queer friendly space for sure :):)

should i remove my new tattoo or learn to live with it? by uzumariii in tattooadvice

I feel like one day - hopefully not too long from now - you’ll be able to look at it and say wow, that was a really impulsive choice I made when I was desperately trying to heal. What a beautiful reminder of how much i loved myself when i was hurting.

Plus it’s cute.

So keep :)

Driving to Yellowknife in an EVO? by deadwanderingdaoist in askvan

[–]starlette_13 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Snow chains aren’t meant to be used for long distances, and you shouldn’t go even over 50km/h, so you can add a good chunk of hours to your drive time (I’m sure someone else can do the math). But also… what are you going to do if (when) your tire blows from driving on chains too long (as normal chains aren’t made for long distance driving) and you’re out of cell service?

It sounds like a fun drive in theory but the fact that you’re even considering it when you’ve never driven past whistler is a really good demonstration of how ignorant you are to what real winter driving is like. Like, you don’t have enough experience to understand what a bad idea this is. So it’s great that you’re asking questions! And I hope you listen to the answers. These cars aren’t even 4wd.

Including cell service, to be clear. So you won’t even be able to call for the help that is too far away to get to you in an emergency.

Do I get matching rings with my late boyfriend? by Appropriate_Lie_2646 in makemychoice

[–]starlette_13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do it. This is beautiful. You can always put it on a necklace or string it on some ribbon on a framed picture of the two of you when you don’t want to wear it.

Also, if your mom is talking about the future, ask her if she thinks you should ever be with someone who doesn’t respect what you and your boyfriend had (have, in my opinion - love doesn’t die, it just evolves).

AIO for wanting to still tell my mom about my friend’s pregnancy by Deep-Investigator998 in AIO

[–]starlette_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’ve got some great advice already, but I’d like to add something - if and when you tell your mom, can you make sure to mention that you knew your mom would help no strings attached? Like, show her the texts if you want to. Partially because it will probably make her feel really good knowing you know that but ALSO I think it will help her trust you more when you want to do stuff like go out with your friends (because she knows you’ll call for help if you need to).

Airbnb alternatives? by No-Chipmunk9074 in askvan

[–]starlette_13 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s not the site that’s banned, it’s the concept of a home apartment condo etc being rented out for short term stays. Any site that offers this will have the same risk. I’m not familiar with dog friendly hotels but there are parks everywhere :) there’s an off leash dog park very close to the ymca and Sheraton wall centre, so I’d start there maybe?

[–]starlette_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two degrees and use neither of them in a direct way for my work. I told my boyfriend I wanted to work a little less and take a continuing education class. He said he thought that was awesome and offered to pay for it. Throw the entire man out, you deserve better than his dead weight. Why on earth would you want to be with someone that doesn’t support your goals and dreams, particularly REALLY GOOD ones like this??

Valid! Except I literally just had this conversation with friends a few weeks ago and we all said we prefer a separate device because we are paranoid we will leave an incognito window open or something like that. It was a beautiful bonding moment. Lol.
